Five Movies, Five Movie Quotes: Bond Edition

fivemovies_quotes

Hello folks! Films are a visual medium, but without a good story, it’d be more of a music video or visual poetry. So to me, one of the things I remember about the movies is the dialog. This list is sort of inspired by the Five Movies Five Words series I haven’t done in a while, which was started by Josh @ Cinematic Spectacle. We’ll see how long I can keep up with this one, ahah.

In any case, inspired by this awesome Bond podcast on the underrated Bond movie Licence To Kill, I thought I’d start out with the Bond theme. I might or might not have a theme for the next one, we shall see. Favorite quotes isn’t just about the line itself, but it’s the delivery. That’s why I have to start with one of my fave Bond movies starring my all time fave Bond actor!

The Living Daylights

STUFF my orders! I only kill professionals. That girl didn’t know one end of her rifle from the other. Go ahead. Tell M what you want. If he fires me, I’ll thank him for it.

Licence to Kill

TLK_problemeliminator

James Bond: In my business you prepare for the unexpected.
Franz Sanchez: And what business is that?
James Bond: I help people with problems.
Franz Sanchez: Problem solver.
James Bond: More of a problem eliminator.

Casino Royale

Bartender: Shaken or stirred?
James Bond: Do I look like I give a damn?

Goldfinger

Pussy Galore: “My name is Pussy Galore.”
Bond: “I must be dreaming.”

Goldeneye

M: Good, because I think you’re a sexist, misogynist dinosaur. A relic of the Cold War, whose boyish charms, though wasted on me, obviously appealed to that young woman I sent out to evaluate you.

Well, that’s it for the first of the series. What are some of YOUR fave Bond quotes?

  1. I don’t know about Bond quotes, but I could listen to Sean Connery read the phone book. In fact, I imagine that’s how I’d prefer to fall asleep for the rest of my life…sweet dreams assured.

    1. Mwahahaha, I don’t blame you Jay! Yes he’s got a great voice, I also love Moore’s voice but it’s Dalton who gets me weak in the knees. His Welsh accent is soooo sexy!!

    1. Oh yes, that one is a classic. But his reaction to Pussy Galore always cracks me up as I think he REALLY thought he was dreaming!

    1. Awesome! Glad to hear we share some fave Bond quotes 🙂 I probably could do a top 20 as there are sooo many memorable Bond quotes out there.

      1. I’ll probably have to pinch a few off you then haha. I’ve done quite a few Bond related posts but not so many quotes. Quizzes, songs sort of thing. You’d probably ace them!

  2. I don’t remember a lot of quotes from Bond movies as I’m bad with quotes. There have been some that stuck out like the ones between Bond and Q… “Pay attention 007” “You’re joking!” “I never joke about my work”. “Q, do I ever disappoint you?” “Quite frequently”. I hope whoever plays Bond next, maintain that witty banter with him and Q. I really think they made the right choice in having Ben Whishaw as Q who has been able to create his own take on the character.

    1. Oh yeah, the banters between Q and Bond are lots of fun! I think Dalton has a great chemistry with Desmond Llewelyn’s Q in both his Bond films, and in Licence To Kill, Q actually got an integral part that’s more about the gadget guy. I like Whishaw too, he’s a rather unconventional choice but it worked!

    1. Ahah yes, Ted’s mentioned that one. I knew that’s a popular one, that’s why I went with the Pussy Galore quote as Bond’s expression always made me laugh! The banters between Bond & the villains often make for some memorable dialog for sure!

    1. Ahah, Drax is actually one of my fave Bond villains CB! Moonraker is one of my guilty pleasures as I saw it as a kid and was so amused by it. I like how elegant he was in his mansion as he was playing the piano. The way he fed his dogs was pretty memorable too. And who could forget Dr. Holly Goodhead 😛

  3. Hahah the ”do I look Iike I care?” quote always cracks me up. It’s like that quote single-handedly set-up how this new Bond was going to be like. Even though, he would say shaken not stirred in subsequent movies, it was a funny thing at the time 😀

    1. Hi Khalid! Exactly. The same way the ‘stuff my orders!’ quote in The Living Daylights was to signal that this is a different, grittier Bond. Yeah, I think Casino Royale remains the best of Craig’s Bonds, the rest was a diminishing returns.
