ABC’s TOY STORY of TERROR – The only Halloween Special I’m excited for this month

Wahoo!! My favorite toy gang is back! Can you believe it that it’s been 3 years since TOY STORY 3 was released? Well, that film made my top five of 2010, one of those rare movies that garners a full 5/5 score from moi. Now, I did have a small quibble about that film in that it didn’t have enough Mr. Pricklepants, voiced by, who else, Timothy Dalton of course!

So imagine my thrill when I heard his deep, inimitable voice narrating this spooktastic half-hour special coming to ABC on Wednesday, October 16 at 8 p.m. ET. Of course it’s always fun to see Woody, Buzz and the his riotous team back together again!

This is the plot per Huffington Post: What starts out as a fun road trip for the “Toy Story” gang takes an unexpected turn for the worse when the trip detours to a roadside motel. After one of the toys goes missing, the others find themselves caught up in a mysterious sequence of events that must be solved before they all suffer the same fate in “Toy Story of TERROR!”

Angus MacLane, one of Pixar’s animators who worked on a bunch of Pixar animations since A Bug’s Life is directing the short feature, and Oscar-winning composer Michael Giacchino who won for UP worked on the score.

Check out the trailer:

I LOVE all the vocal talents here, Tom Hanks as Woody, Tim Allen as Buzz, Joan Cusack as Jessie, Don Rickles as Mr. Potato Head, Wallace Shawn as Rex and Kristen Schaal as Trixie. A while back Tom Hanks described the challenges of voicing Woody on the Graham Norton show. Oh you’ve got to see it for yourself, it’s such a hoot! It shows just how awesome and affable Hanks is, and makes you truly appreciate his — and others’ — voice work in this Pixar masterpiece trilogy.

  1. Ted S.

I do enjoy the Toy Story movies but this is probably not for me. I’m sure my niece and nephew will enjoy it though.

    1. Well I don’t really care for horror films but I do LOVE Pixar and Toy Story, so that’s why it’s the ONLY Halloween-related thing I’m looking forward to 😀

  2. Man, I love the Toy Story movies and shorts. I already got this one set to record in my DVR. Plus, I’m dying to see Mr. Pricklepants and Trixie. And I would love to see a cameo from Totoro.

        1. How true that is Cindy, when my 1st boy started watching films the only animated movie we owned was Finding Nemo. After about 20 viewings I had to rectify that situation. Now half the films we own are animated lol

          1. Ahahaha, well since I don’t have kids, I take your word for it Cindy & Adam. Thankfully the quality of animated films have improved in terms of visuals and story.

    1. Ahah, well I won’t hit anyone for not having seen something, let alone you dearest! But you really should watch Toy Story 2 and 3, they’re sooo adorable. Yeah the 3rd one is a tear jerker but in a good way, trust me.

  3. Ooh, cool! Will definitely watch! Even though I must be the only person in the world who isn’t head-over-heels in love with the Toy Story movies. I just think they’re OK! haha

Loved that Hanks video. I’d seen it before but I loved watching it again. He’s such a cool guy.

    1. Hey as long as you somewhat like Toy Story that’s ok, can’t imagine anyone hating those films!

Yeah, I’ve watched that video of Hanks on Graham Norton over and Over, he’s so awesome and versatile!

        1. Exactly! I don’t love everything Pixar does but these characters are so fun and endearing, even the supporting character like Rex is a hoot!

    1. Hi Asrap! Yeah I guess you’re right we don’t need Toy Story 4 though I so love these characters that I hope they’d do these TV specials more often 😀

  4. I really want to check this out, but I think I’m going to wait until next year. I still haven’t seen Toy Story 2 or 3, and while I’m sure it’s not heavily continuity-dependent, I’d rather get to know the “new” characters in the films first.

  5. Awesome! My wife had mentioned something about this but thanks for providing the date it is airing so my boy can watch it. The only downside I see is that is just a half hour long. Well prob 20 min after all the ads ;-(

However, I will take what I can get 😉

    1. This would be an awesome family viewing time, Adam! Yeah, if only it were an hour-long so it’s at least 45 min of the actual show itself 😀

  6. Gene

Awesome, thanks for the heads up! I’ll have to set this to record… uhhh, for the kids 😉 I also loved Toy Story 3! So perfect.

    1. Hey cool to be the one to let you know Niels! Yeah, Graham Norton Show is a hoot, there are a bunch of them on Youtube. I like the casual setting and he’s such a funny host!

  7. Haha. I love that Tom Hanks interview on Graham Norton. I wasn’t a big fan of Toy Story 3 (liked, but didn’t love), but I might give this special a look when it’s online.
