FlixChatter Turns 1 Today!

It’s officially been one year since I published my first ever blog post, so happy 1st birthday to FlixChatter!

[Photo of cake is courtesy of Lisa Nguyen, a baker in Orange County, who made this cake for her film major friend. If I ever threw a party on my blog’s behalf, I’d be sure to order a cake like this!]

To commemorate this milestone, last night I’ve finally submitted my LAMB’s membership. I know, I know, this is something I should’ve done many, many months ago! To those non-movie bloggers, no I’m not joining the Gwen Stefani’s fashion line which shares the same acronym. This LAMB stands for Large Association of Movie Blog, the premier movie blog directory – a one-stop shop for readers and bloggers alike. Check out the annual LAMMY Award for 2010 that recognize many of FlixChatter’s friends!

I don’t check the stats page very often, but last night I did and so far FC’s got nearly 113,000 hits! Wow, I’d never thought I’d reach 100k within a year so this is very humbling. Pardon me for this ‘acceptance speech’ of sort, but I do want to take the time to acknowledge those who’ve contributed to the life span of this blog. Becky & Mike, thanks for being loyal readers from day one, Vince C. for being such an indispensable classic flix guest blogger, Samantha for your phenomenal contribution on Mark Strong (hopefully the first of many) and others who’ve contributed their reviews, and all my blogger friends who’ve entertained me and learned so much from. Last but not least, thanks to all of you readers out there who take the time to visit and drop your comments. Bloggers LOVE comments, and I’m not shy to admit that hearing what y’all had to say really make my day!

Well, since I’m feeling kind of nostalgic today, I thought I’d invite you to check out some of my earlier posts (from the first three months) that you might’ve missed:

A very happy birthday to you, flixchatter/rtm! How boring was lunch before FC came about? Very! Thanks for all your insights and entertainment, look forward to many more.

    1. Thanks Prairiegirl! I’m so honored to be a part of your lunch break every day 🙂 Thanks again for being so supportive of FC.

  2. wahoo! Happy first blog birthday!!!! Great blog, always sure to check it out even if I don’t comment. Keep it coming, and here’s looking forward to year two!

    1. Thank you, Univarn, I appreciate you taking the time to visit. I know with my increasingly growing blogroll it’s hard to keep up with everyone’s blog.

    1. Thanks Castor… awww what a sweet thing to say, especially coming from someone I’ve learned so much from. I appreciate your friendship, the community part really is what makes this blogging thing so worthwhile!

  3. Happy Birthday Ruth! Congrats on a fantastic site. I always enjoy reading your site, it is informative and well written and you always have really original posts. I particularly enjoy your random movie trivia. As a brand new blogger it is encouraging to see how much you’ve accomplished in a year. It gives me something to aim at. Well done and keep up the great work.

    1. Thank you for the encouraging words, Ronan! I’ve learned a lot from fellow bloggers like you throughout the year. I originally just want to have a venue to channel my movie musings, so to have loyal readers are truly icing on the cake. I enjoy your Irish slant on all things movies, too, and I’ve always wanted to say this for a long time: I love your blog name! 🙂

      1. Thanks Ruth, that’s sweet of you, I like it too. I just hope I can produce content as good and as consistently as you do. I can learn a lot from you Ruth, and I look forward to the second year of flixchatter.

Happy birthday and keep it up. Nice cake (and perfectly suited for the occasion, apart from the “Matt”).

Congrats rtm!!! Really glad to know a passionate, smart movie lover is right next door!!! thanks for indulging the ol’ rockerdad and his rambles.

    1. Well right back at ya, Vince! I think YOU should also have a classic flix blog, I mean you are a great writer and your movie knowledge is just massive! Thanks for contributing to FC, I’m sooo honored.

Happy be-lated birthday to you and your baby, flixchatter, Ruth! I was busy celebrating Johnny Depp’s birthday yesterday. Ha Ha! Someday you’ll be famous.

    1. Very funny, Corinne, but thanks anyway. So just what did you mean by ‘celebrating’? Some tequila involved I take it?? 🙂

One year young — my, my, they do grow up so fast! 🙂

Keep on truckin’, Ruth, and thanks so much for your support of my blog as well. You always write the nicest compliments, and they never fail to keep me going even when I think “Why the hell do I do this? I don’t get paid!”

    1. Thank you Meredith! Well until you give me a reason NOT to praise you I’ll keep doing it 🙂 I’m just amazed that you’re not a pro blogger because your writing surpasses a heck of a lot of pro sites out there. Keep on truckin’ as well and I’ll keep on learning from you.

    1. He..he.. terima kasih ming Julie 🙂 Funny, in Indo ‘Hari Jadi’ usually has something to do with wedding, but I know to you it means ‘birthday.’ Similar words, different meaning!

        Hey there Ruth!

Was just directed to your blog from the IMDB links roll and have been enjoying what I’m seeing so far! I have to say I love the photo/banner at the top of the blog…and I’m wondering what city it is? It looks breathtaking…the most prominent skyscraper almost looks like the Library Tower from Los Angeles, but that can’t be right, can it?

And who took such a fantastic photo?

        Keep up the good writing!

        Derek

        1. Hi Derek, why thanks for your kind comment. The banner photo is of my hometown Minneapolis, it’s the Hennepin Avenue bridge. My husband took those last year, so he’ll be very well pleased to hear you like it. I do think it’s breathtaking as well, the colors are so dramatic. It’s not exactly a movie-related banner but I love it so much I didn’t care 🙂

Hope you stop by again soon!

Well for just a year into this crazy ocean of movie blogs, I have to say your writing ability seems culled from a lifetime of doing this.

If you made it past the first 12 months, then you’ve got what it takes to be a sufficient blogger…god knows you’ve shown your dedication!!

Happy (belated) Birthday!! Three cheers for Ruth: Huzzah, huzzah, huzzah!!!
