Happy Star Wars Day! OBI-WAN KENOBI limited series full trailer + poster

Happy Star Wars Day, everyone!! I was planning on posting this much earlier but oh well, my work got in the way [sigh]. Well, I posted the teaser back in March and this time we’ve got the full trailer of the Disney+ miniseries.

The story begins 10 years after the dramatic events of “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith” where Obi-Wan Kenobi faced his greatest defeat—the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, who turned to the dark side as evil Sith Lord Darth Vader.

I get goosebumps seeing, well more hearing Darth Vader’s iconic breath towards the end of the trailer… for sure I’m looking forward to the reunion of Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen nearly two decades after they played Obi-Wan and Anakin.

Per Total Film magazine with Ewan on the cover, apparently seeing Hayden for the first time actually terrified him!

I’ve never met Darth Vader…I had rehearsed the scene with Vader, but not with the helmet on or anything like that. When we came to do the scene, when they shouted ‘action’, he had to come from behind me. I turned around, and f***ing Darth Vader was coming at me. It was like I was six again. I’d never acted into Vader’s helmet. I’d never looked him in the eye.

I also read somewhere that both Ewan and Hayden binged on all of the Star Wars movies to prep for their roles. In addition to this miniseries, Hayden will reportedly appear in the upcoming Disney+ series Ahsoka starring Rosario Dawson, who I last saw in The Mandalorian

Looking at the poster, McGregor’s getting older and more grizzled, he starts to resemble the original Obi-Wan, Sir Alec Guinness.

John Williams‘ iconic score always gets me in the mood to return to the Star Wars saga again… and the visuals look absolutely glorious thanks to DP Chung-hoon Chung (whose work in Last Night in Soho is pretty stunning). Loving the ethnically diverse cast as well, esp. Moses Ingram who’s terrific in The Queen’s Gambit and Sung Kang from the Fast & Furious franchise. I’ve been a big fan of British actors Rupert Friend and Indira Varma, so it’s cool to see them joining the SW universe.

Mostly I’m excited to see Deborah Chow‘s direction here. She’s done a couple of good episodes of The Mandalorian as well as a few other high-profile shows like The Man in the High Castle, Jessica Jones, Mr. Robot, etc.

The first two episodes will drop on Disney+ on Friday, May 27, can’t wait!! May the Force Be With you, all!

Thoughts on the latest Obi-Wan Kenobi trailer?

  1. This looks good. I hope it’s better than The Book of Boba Fett which I liked but I felt it ended up becoming a mini-season of The Mandalorian towards the end.

    1. I think it’ll be better than The Book of Boba Fett as it’s actually about an integral character whose influence actually affects the most important figure of the SW saga, that is Darth Vader. I think the Boba Fett series is so unnecessary and kind of pointless.

  2. I sure hope the actual show is as good as the trailer. I’ve been so disappointed with the last few Disney+ shows. Hawkeye, The Book of Boba Fett and Moon Knight had great trailers but the actual shows were a let down. I’m keeping my expectations low for this one, so I won’t be disappointed if the show turns out to be a dud.

    1. I hear ya Ted. I was a bit letdown by Moon Knight’s last two episodes, to be honest. I mean I still love Oscar’s performance but that’s pretty much about it. I do have high hopes for this one as it involves some major characters who are at the core of the whole SW universe. I’m curious to see Vader back on screen again as well as Obi-Wan.
