As Winter is just weeks away here in MN, it’s gonna be hibernation time! So I’m glad there’ll be highly-anticipated series to keep my hubby and I occupied! I’m still watching Apple’s FOUNDATION, and Amazon Prime’s WHEEL OF TIME coming on November 19th, but I’ll certainly make time to revisit Terra and the Rocinante crews come December 10th!
Especially after seeing this explosive new teaser!
I just love the world of The Expanse, which I called the BEST sci-fi series I’ve seen to date in this post. I’d even say it’s better than Ron Moore’s Battlestar Galactica which was enjoyable but more of a space opera. The trailer just premiered at NY Comic-Con, and per IGN, here’s what’s in store for season 6:
The sixth and final season of The Expanse picks up with the solar system at war, as Marco Inaros (Keon Alexander) and his Free Navy continue to launch devastating asteroid attacks on Earth and Mars. As the tensions of war and shared loss threaten to pull the crew of the Rocinante apart, Chrisjen Avasarala (Shohreh Aghdashloo) makes a bold move and sends former Martian Marine Bobbie Draper (Frankie Adams) on a secret mission that could turn the tide of the conflict. Meanwhile, in the Belt, Drummer (Cara Gee) and what’s left of her family are on the run after betraying Marco. And on a distant planet beyond the Rings, a new power begins to rise.
It’s also bittersweet that season 6 is the season finale! [say it ain’t so!] Well, according to some articles I read recently, the show-runners aren’t calling it a ‘cancelation’ but more of a ‘pause.’ Per Polygon, Ty Franck is quoted as saying “Alcon [Television Group] — our studio — is very committed to the IP…They have lots of plans. We’ll see what happens after that. But, we will have a satisfying story to the TV arc in the sixth season.”
I suppose they have reasons to be hopeful considering the season got a new lease on life on Amazon Prime after being ‘canceled’ by SyFy after 3 seasons, but apparently the deal was always been for 3 more seasons. I for one am hoping the Expanse story would continue, and perhaps even get a spin-off in the works.
One of my absolute fave characters is Camina Drummer, played wonderfully by Cara Gee. Her arc just gets better and better each season, esp. in S3 with David Strathairn‘s Ashford. I love the Rocinante crew but if I were to pick a character to spin-off, it’d be her or Bobbie Drapper (Frankie Adams), two fascinating ladies who I’d want as an ally if I were ever caught in a space war.
In any case, in terms of the ‘final’ season, what I can’t wait to see how the final arc of the ruthless Marco Inaros. I’m not gonna lie, Keon Alexander is extremely easy on the eyes as the series villain, and his character as a political extremist is definitely intriguing.
The show-runners have set such a high standard with the past 5 seasons, so I expect to be wowed once more in season 6. Let’s hope we won’t have to wait too long for the story to um, expand, in the future!
It’s still on my to watch list, I’m glad the final season is coming so I can watch the earlier seasons. I tend to wait and watch the show that I missed from the beginning and watch them before the final season to catch up. I missed the beginning seasons of Games of Throne and Breaking Bad but caught up to them once the final season were announced.
I hear ya Ted, it’s easier to catch up on shows when you know how many seasons there are. I think you’d enjoy this one, I find it much better pacing than Foundation and the story/characters are so rich and layered.
