The parking lot in my office is much more sparse today as people are probably already on the road or up in the air on their way to their Thanksgiving celebration. Well, as we’re all about giving thanks this week, I thought I’d take the time to give thanks to EVERYONE who’s been a loyal supporter to FlixChatter!
I’m grateful that in my third year of blogging I’ve ‘met’ a lot of wonderful folks from all over the globe, some of whom I’ve actually met in person, too! Blogging has become so much a part of my life, in fact if you ask my hubby, it seems to have taken over my life, ahah. I really enjoy writing and chatting about movies and making connections with fellow movie lovers, so THANK YOU for every ‘LIKE’ that you’ve given me and every single comment you’ve dropped on each post. As you know I try to respond to every one of them and you know I truly appreciate you taking the time out of your busy day to comment!
Special thanks to: Michael, Josh, Sati, Mark, and Fernando who not only comment regularly but have kindly give shout outs to my blog either on their own blog or via Twitter.
I also want to give a shout out to Allied Integrated Marketing, especially the Minneapolis Director Katie Stroup for admitting me to their Press List. That means more advanced screenings in the future, yay!
Now it’s time for links!
My pal Michael has a plethora of awesome blog series on his blog It Rains… You Get Wet. As you know his TMT one is my favorite, but my second fave is his Same Song, Different Movie series. This time he chose Canzonetta Sull’aria by Mozart, one of the most beautiful aria that makes your heart soar and eyes well up with tears. I’ve only seen the one film he mentioned but I might give The Great Raid a try.
…
Fernando of Committed to Celluloid recently reviewed a Mexican drama that’s been submitted as Best Foreign Language Film for the 2013 Oscar, called After Lucia (Después de Lucía). It deals with a tough topic of severe bullying, but sounds like the performances are really worth a look.

I LOVE posts about Scene Spotlight and nobody does it better than Lady Sati! The combination of gorgeous photography and animated GIFs are so lovely. I LOVE this recent Scene of the Week in The Dark Knight Rises. I love that scene despite the logic-defying circumstances (but hey, it’s a comic-book movie after all), but I do have more questions after Bruce made the jump.
I mean, how in the world did Bruce make it back to the heavily-guarded Gotham full of Bane’s army with no money, no shoes, and worse of all no Alfred! Nolan has some ‘splainin’ to do in the DVD/Blu-ray feature! 🙂
…
Being a Movie Trivia aficionado, I LOVE Mark’s Tuesday Trivia Tidbits he started a few months ago. There’s always a few you haven’t heard of, certainly I was surprised by one on my favorite super spy and his famous Walter PPK. So take a look if you haven’t already!
…
The ever-so-prolific Josh at Cinematic Spectacle watches a bunch of movies week after week. Perhaps he has 36 hours in a day instead of 24? 😉 Well, he recently gave us a viewing update on 12 films he’s catching up on before year’s end. There’s a lot on there I haven’t seen, including the indie dramedy Your Sister’s Sister starring Emily Blunt and Rosemarie DeWitt. I should give that one a watch just for those two lovely ladies!
…
Last but not least… my pal Terrence always has such a timely poll in his weekly Time to Vote Tuesday. I LOVE that he actually dedicated a poll for my boy Gerry Butler last week to commemorate his birthday!
This week his theme is on Holiday Shopping, so vote for THREE (3) movies that has your favorite shopping scenes! Sorry to hear you have to work on Black Friday, my friend, but here’s wishing you a wonderful Thanksgiving day!
…
So, what are your Thanksgiving viewing plans this weekend? If you’re one of those traveling today, enjoy and be safe. I pray that you won’t end up like these two 😀
…
Thank you very much for the shout-out there Ruth. Much appreciated!
I’m surprised to hear that this is your third year. That’s good going. I’m suffering from a little doze of bloggers burnout and I haven’t even completed my first year yet. 😉
My pleasure Mark! I love the back and forth exchange we have here and on your blog, it’s been fun!
Oh no, don’t get burnout yet man, we’ll miss you too much!
I enjoy our exchanges also Ruth. I’m currently trying to take a little step back, so I can recharge the batteries. I’ve a list of reviews to write that are as long as my arm but I will keep at. I managed to do it on Rotten Tomatoes for a few years before I started my blog so I don’t see why I can’t keep it up. It’s probably more difficult keeping up with everybody else’s stuff rather than my own. Unfortunately, it’s getting more difficult to read everything. Anyway, I’ve just posted My Movie Alphabet and hopefully have a review up tomorrow as well. Not bad for being burned out eh? 😉
Right back at ‘cha, Ruth. You’ve built a wonderful film & blogging community with Flixchatter. It’s my pleasure to do my part. Many thanks for the shout out, my friend. We’re out of town for the holiday, but we have brought PLANES TRAINS AND AUTOMOBILES, DUE DATE (my son picked that), and FANTASTIC MR. FOX with us.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.
Thank you for everything, Michael! Enjoy your Thanksgiving holiday with your family, and sounds like you’ve got a great holiday viewing planned already. Well done! 🙂
Thanks so much for the link, Ruth! It helps that a lot of those films I watched are around 90 minutes long. I could hardly get through 12 Gone with the Winds or Lawrence of Arabias. 😉
As far as viewing plans, I’d like to see Life of Pi, and I still have more 2012 films to catch up on. I might rewatch Planes, Trains and Automobiles too.
You run a terrific blog. I love reading what you write, so keep up the good work! And I hope you have a great Thanksgiving! 😀
You’re welcome, Josh! Ah so those movies aren’t very long, that’s helpful 🙂 Ha..ha.. yeah, I haven’t even been able to rewatch any of the LOTR stuff as they’re like 4 hrs long now w/ the extended version.
Oh hope you enjoy Life of Pi, a colleague of mine has been anxiously waiting for it as she loves the book. I don’t know yet what I’ll be watching.
Thanks for the kind words, right back at cha!
Love the pix of Steve Martin and John Candy as they near the end of their adventure ;-D. And Planes, Trains and Automobiles is exactly what my dad, mom and I will watch (again) tomorrow.
Happy Turkey Day to everyone!
Well you inspired me to put that in as you’ll be watching it tomorrow. Happy Thanksgiving Becky, I’m definitely thankful for your friendship! 🙂
Hi, Ruth and company:
Since feasting with my older sister and niece won’t happen until Friday, Thanksgiving Day will probably be devoted to laundry, a personal ‘Frefly’ marathon on DVD. Food preparation and catching a favorite Dick Van Dyke, Barbara Feldon holiday comedy ‘Fitzwilly’ (1967) late at night.
Thanks also to you, Michael, Paula, Fogs, I Luv, Mark and everyone else for the links on posted guest reviews and blog~a~thons. And general, all around support in allowing me to dabble in something more than a hobby and slightly less than an obsession.
PS: Check your e-mail and spam, Ruth. You should have a post from me regarding ‘First Impressions from Second Stringers’ hiding somewhere.
Hi ya Jack, long time no ‘see,’ I’ve missed you! Oh a Firefly marathon sounds fun there, and yeah I’ll probably be doing tons of laundry as well, ahah.
Oh my, I better check on that article! That must’ve been lost in the Spam folder or something, I’m so sorry!! I had been wondering when you’ll be sending me an article again. The Classics category has been severely lacking without you, my friend 😉
You’re very welcome Jack, happy to! Happy Thanksgiving to you all 🙂
I used to always watch Plains, Trains and Automobiles during Thanksgiving night, but I don’t have it on BD so I won’t be able to watch it this year. Since I have a few days off and caught up with my work, I’ll probably watch some BDs I’ve bought and maybe finally The Guns Navaronne that you lend me. Lawrence of Arabia came out on BD earlier this week, I might pick it up and watch it.
Glad you finally got a press pass, it’s kind of nice to see films a few days or weeks before it opens to the public. Years ago when I had a film blog, I got to see Titantic months before it opened in theaters, some of the effect weren’t even done yet. They invited online film reviewers, critics and a few lucky viewers to the secret screening. I thought the movie was going to ruin Cameron’s career because I didn’t really care for it and the movie just dragged on and on. Of course I was dead wrong.
Hey Ted, it was awesome to see you last Wednesday! Oh yeah, do watch Guns of Navarone, that was one of my fave Greg Peck’s movies. Oooh if you decide to buy the Lawrence of Arabia BD, may I borrow it? 😉 I actually rewatched Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol last night, still a lot of fun!
Yeah I’m glad I’m finally considered ‘press’ now, took me a while to get there but it was well worth it! 🙂
Yeah it’s nice to catch up in person with you and the rest of the gang. Not sure how long I’ll be at Findlaw though, the work is not what I call exciting or creative, lol.
Sure I’ll lend you Lawrence of Arabia, I’m waiting for the price to drop. The price is way too high right now for a movie that’s 50 years old. I waited a while to get Lean’s other film, The Bridge on the River Kwai and it only cost me $7. Hopefully Lawrence’s disc will drop to price range soon.
I’ve watched Ghost Protocol a few times, it’s a great fun flick. Let’s hope the next one will be as good or better.
Thank you so much for the link and the mention, it’s such a pleasure to read your blog! I really envy everyone who can celebrate Thanksgiving, we don’t have it here and it seems like such a lovely holiday and the traditional food sounds delicious 🙂
Thank you Sati! Oh I think you can celebrate Thanksgiving anytime and anywhere 😀 I actually went out for Thanksgiving buffet as I have no idea how to cook a turkey!
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday Ruth. I saw Your Sister’s Sister on Blu-ray last week and though it was a great watch. I’m sure you’d find it enjoyable.
Hope you had a nice one too, Max. Glad to hear about Your Sister’s Sister, for sure I’ll be renting that.
lovely post Ruth 🙂
Happy thanksgiving to you.
Just like you, blogging has become important part of my daily life…meeting new people is the best part of it.
ah…I am still using my baby turtle’s ava 😉
Hi Kroten and Novia! 😀 Yeah, the community thing is one of the best perks of blogging. Otherwise I wouldn’t have met you!
Nice post, Ruth and many thanks for both shout-outs! Don’t know which movies I’ll be watching on Thanksgiving weekend. I watched Brave earlier today!
My pleasure Fernando! Oh what did you think of BRAVE? Hope you like it.
It’s one of the weakest Pixar entries for sure, but I enjoyed it a lot and loved the animation. It was fun, funny and surprisingly poignant.
Oh I wouldn’t call it Pixar’s weakest at all, but hey I’m glad you enjoyed it. Yes it is surprisingly poignant indeed.
Have a great Thanksgiving Ruth!
Thanks Nostra!
Happy Thanksgiving, Ruth!
Thanks Morgan! It’s nice to take a couple of days off from my computer as well 🙂
Favourite shopping scenes? Hmm…how about post-apocalypse ones – Zombieland and Dawn of the Dead!
Happy Thanksgiving!
Ahah, I haven’t seen Zombieland yet but I did see a clip of the Twinkies-eating zombies! 😀
Happy thanksgiving, Ruth! Well, I think blogging somehow takes up half of my time too. Sometimes I keep blogging anyway even though I know I need some rest, it’s just when I start blogging it’s hard to stop. But these days, I somehow don’t have much time to keep up with commenting to other blogs. Just to some closest ones I guess.
Anyway, happy holidays! It’s rainy in Jakarta. Hopefully not in 13th dec 😉
Thanks Andina! Yeah blogging can be addictive isn’t it, but it sure is fun! I’m glad to have ‘met’ you and Novia and hopefully will do so in person soon 🙂
Hi Ruth, hope you had an awesome Thanksgiving! I am still enjoying my extended weekend with plenty of movies and relaxing 😀
Hi Eric, yeah me too! I took Monday off so nice to have 5 days off from work! 🙂
Hope you are having a great thanksgiving weekend Ruth! It’s so nice to have the long weekend off to catch up on some sleep, spend some hard earned cash and of course watch a movie or two 😉
I just saw Silver Linings Playbook this morning and really liked it!
Yes I did Cas, nice and mellow with very little traveling. Hope you got some rest from your 60-hour-a-week schedule and got some good deals on Black Friday 😉
Oh glad to hear you like Silver Linings, that’s one of my faves from TCFF!
Yeesh more blogs I haven’t come across! Like the look of Mark and Josh’s so heading that way now!
