To be frank with you, I’m kind of on and off about this movie. I mean this whole idea of jam-packing a friggin’ boatload of superheroes into one movie is worrisome. Just how in the heck are they gonna pull this off?? But after reading more about this project, especially seeing that Josh Whedon seems to have a good grip on the storytelling (Per Castor’s post, The Avengers will be told from Captain America’s point of view), I’m willing to give this movie the benefit of the doubt.
Well now this new trailer actually gets me all excited about this one. Check it out and let me know what you think:
…
Loki: “I have an army.”
Stark : “We have a Hulk.”
Say what you will but that facetious last part out of the whole trailer is my favorite part! I LOVE Tom Hiddleston’s Loki for one, plus Robert Downey Jr.’s snarky-ness is always a joy to watch. Tony Stark’s surely gonna have tons of fun one-liners in this movie! I just think that if Whedon just not take this whole thing too seriously, more in the spirit of the first Iron Man, it should be a massively enjoyable action flick.
Btw, on January 31st, Marvel Studios sponsored a Global Tweet Chat where fans can chat with Whedon and cast members Samuel L. Jackson, Clark Gregg and Tom Hiddleston via Twitter. That’s awesome, I wish I had known about it but most likely I gotta work at that hour 😦 Screenrant has some of the Q&A from the event here if you’re interested. As I’m a big fan of Loki, I’m pretty excited to see him answer this question:
For TH: Might we see a more mischievous (rather than mostly just evil) Loki in the The Avengers?
TH: ENTIRELY. More mischievous. More evil. More hubristic. More delusional. More damaged. More badass.
All right, bring it on team! May 4th can’t come soon enough!
…
What say you folks? Are you excited for this movie?
This was my favorite spot in the SB broadcast. The film keeps looking better and better for this comic book and movie fan.
Yeah, that’s what my hubby said too. He immediately showed me the trailer on his iPad and I knew I just had to post it here 🙂
When THE DARK KNIGHT RISES trailer debuted over a month ago, fans chanted “Nolan Nolan Chris Chris Nolan Nolan” to echo the chant which has been regarded as Bane’s ‘theme’. Looking at this AVENGERS TV-Spot, I am left with reiterating your geekgasm worthy sentiment. ‘Whedon Whedon Joss Joss Whedon Whedon’. Two colossal masterminds of story and character coming out with movies the same summer – it’s going to be mind boggling.
This new trailer did make me helluva excited, and I am even more pumped for the movie than before. It’s weird, though. I have no doubt in my mind Whedon will give each character adequate time [perhaps not Banner, which would be a disappointment] and that pretty much every element will be strong – characters, dialogue, editing, cinematography, performances, etc. – but even though I’m pumped for the movie, I don’t look at these trailers and think, OMG! OMG! OMG!
Guess what I’m looking for right now is an AVENGERS trailer with emphasis on story more than action shots. Still, Whedon, In You I Trust.
Yes, it’ll be Nolan vs Whedon at the box office this year. I think I’d still give Nolan the edge just ’cause this is the first time Whedon’s tackling such a high profile, big-budget blockbuster with a bunch of A-list cast. One thing for sure we know Nolan is good at storytelling but I’m hopeful Whedon can do this movie justice as he’s done a great job w/ Firefly. Ahah, so yeah in Whedon I Trust 🙂
geekgasm. I love it 🙂
I actually think I am looking forward to the film now. Before I was ambivalent at best.
Yeah, my enthusiasm for it just doubled after seeing this one. I hope there’ll be more scenes of Loki & Stark!
Yeah I’m now officially excited to see this movie, should be a great summer for superheroes flick with this film and The Dark Knight Rises. Still have doubts about the reboot of Spiderman though.
I was hoping to see a new trailer for Spidey last nite. I’m more hopeful than you about it because I LOVE Andrew Garfield and that kid can act! I also like Emma Stone and the other supporting cast.
I am super un excited about this now… But i think I am like this as I secrestly want to love it… if that makes sense..?
Happy Monday my BFF!!
Happy Monday Custie (I see your moniker is back now? ahah) Yeah I’m secretly hoping I’d love this too and that it’ll be more than just escapist entertainment. Fingers crossed!
I considered making a spot on the Top 5 for Mr. Hiddleston after reading the Twitter convo. Still up in the air. I will go see The Avengers just to watch Tony Stark and Loki have a discussion. The rest of it looks really fun, too. 🙂
Yep, those two alone are a good reason to watch this movie right Sam? 🙂
I think I’m the only one out there who has no intention of watching this one. It just seems generic, cold and unappealing to me, especially with RDJ in the cast.
If I ever end up watching it on DVD it will be only for my beloved Kiss Evans, Chris Hunksworth and for Hiddlestud 🙂
I LOVE the nicknames you’re giving ’em, Dezzy! Kiss Evans, ahahaha, that’s just hilarious! He does have kissable lips 😉
well, did I make any mistake with their nicknames? I’m sure I didn’t 🙂
And not just lips…. but those are bedtime stories LOL
No you didn’t make any mistake at all, they’re all spot on! 😀
I’m hoping the story will be just as great as the visuals in this one
Yep, that’s my sentiment exactly, Julian.
I’m completely geeking out and cannot wait! I’m a big Joss Whedon fan and look forward to watching him tackle this project. I trust he will do a great job with it. I hope Whedon gives us a great project!
Love the tweet you included from Hiddleston. Ahh, so exciting! I love it. He was great in Thor too. Thanks for including that bit in the end.
Love your enthusiasm, Kristin. Are you a big fan of Firefly? I think Whedon has the experience in handling a big cast, just the scale is much bigger here but I’m hopeful he can do it justice. Yep, I’m a big fan of Hiddleston because of Thor.
It’s a nice trailer and has me looking forward to the movie a little bit more. No big anticipation from me though, the superhero genre is tired especially when it comes to Marvel.
Hey Cas, perhaps it’s time to change that saluting gravatar? It always gives me a chuckle as you’re always bashing the Cap 🙂
I have no association with this pathetic attempt to portray my life!! 😉
Thanks for this. As a non-football person I always forget that the summer block busters also start their push during the Superbowl. Totally agree that RDJ is going to be worth the price of admission on his own. I just hope that they can refrain from using *ALL* his best lines in the trailers so that we have something to wow us in the theaters!
Yeah, I hope there’ll be more one-liners not yet revealed in all the clips/trailers, ahah. It’s interesting that they’re focusing more on Stark & Loki, as those two are perhaps the most interesting characters of the bunch.
I am a little bit worried about this one, I did not care much for any of the three Marvel films released last summer, and even though this is one of my most anticipated films, I just don’t want it to be a let down.
Thanks for sharing Ruth!
Hey totally understand Matt. Unlike you I quite like a lot of Marvel’s recent offerings so naturally I’m more hopeful than you. Let’s hope Whedon delivers w/ this one!
Good god, make this movie arrive sooner.
Ahah, well only 3 more months to go Rodney!
I wasn’t at all that excited about The Avengers, say, this time last year. But the marketing and PR and trailers are working their magic. I was just a little afraid of too many big chefs in one film. I’m loving what I’ve seen so far and slowly, getting more and more excited.
There really weren’t all that many big film trailers during the Superbowl this year, were there?
Hi Jaina, yeah I think the marketing has done a decent job in building excitement. I was sort of meh about it as well before, but after seeing Cap. America I’m much more excited about it and this trailer is uber cool!
I didn’t watch the Superbowl but I think this is the best trailer of the bunch.
Funny, I didn’t think much of Capt. America, but LOVED Thor. It’s all coming together nicely here 😀
Reblogged this on weeweepoppy.
Hi Ruth, The Avengers doesn’t really appeal to me to be honest. I know that probably sounds like crazy talk to a comic nut like yourself but it just doesn’t do anything for me Batman wud whoop all dey ass! 🙂 p.s. tried to watch the vid but it din’t load.
Hi Ronan, well I’m still more excited for TDKR and The Hobbit more than this but I think this should be a good one under Whedon. Technically I don’t think our resident Gotham hero can stand a chance against all of the Avengers, but hey they’re from different comic universe anyway 🙂 The video is playing now, not sure what happened before.
COMPLETELY thrilled when I saw this! cannot wait for the film.
A Great SB spot amid some rather dull ones. Thanks for this spotlight
I’m sure you are more thrilled than anyone here T 😉 I’m glad they had an extended version than the one they showed on TV.
The most interesting thing about this trailer is that after months of living with the knowledge that things will blow up in The Avengers, we finally get to see the things causing the explosions. I’m not an avid comic book fan, so that’s not a huge surprise, but there’s really nothing about them that rings of anything familiarly Marvel-ish to me. So that’s kind of neat.
Stark feels like Whedon’s kind of character; he’s a hero, but he’s also a wiseass, which should play to Whedon’s proclivities as a director/writer.
I’m still not 100% enthused about this, but that spot is a nice shot in the arm for the film’s marketing.
Hi Andrew, yeah Stark is like Cap. Mal right… snarky on the outside but he’s actually a pretty nice bloke.
Still leery of group Superhero movies but after X-Men:First Class and Joss Whedon hmlieng this one, its hard not to get excited. Maybe they’ll sneak in some other superhero cameos? Like Spidey?
