JUNE Viewing Recap + Movie of the Month

June2015Recap

I was contemplating about taking a blogging break as I’ve mentioned here that I’m hoping to start writing my first script [so yes I’ve decided that’s the format instead of a novel]. But I think I’d miss it too much so I’ll probably just blog less and will also reduce my time visiting people’s blogs.

Needless to say, I didn’t really have much time for movie watching either this month. I only went to four press screenings: SPY, Jurassic World, Me and Earl and The Dying Girl and Self/less. There were two scheduled screenings for Magic Mike XXL, but honestly I can’t be more disinterested in seeing that flick if I tried. Was planning on seeing Terminator Genisys but decided against it due to threat of severe weather. That movie just isn’t worth getting hail damage on my car. I am looking forward to seeing Southpaw [Jake Gyllenhall looks positively Oscar worthy just from the trailer alone!] and MI5: Rogue Nation. Oh I also signed up for Ant Man too, though I’m kind of meh about Marvel stuff these days.

Reviews

I’ve been feeling burnt out lately in review writing, so there are a slew of stuff I saw I haven’t got a chance to review yet. Interestingly enough, this weekend had been quite a prolific one as I actually did finish three reviews in a matter of 48 hours! We’ll see how long that’ll last, but so long as the passion is there, I’m gonna ride it until it’s gone 😀 Here are some that’ve been posted already:

Entourage (2015)

SPY (2015)

Jurassic World (2015)

A Coffee in Berlin (2014)

P.K. (2014)

Inside Out (2015)

Me and Earl and the Dying Girl (2014)

Rewatches

Chicken Run (2000)  |  Man of Steel (2013)  |  Roman Holiday (1953)  | Bride & Prejudice (2004)  |  Mansfield Park (1999)  |  BBC’s North & South (2004)  |  BBC’s Sense & Sensibility (2008)

June Blind Spot Pick:

New-to-me Movies (that I haven’t reviewed yet):

A Most Wanted Man (2014)

Self/less (2015)

The Words (2012)

TV Series:

ABC’s Galavant

Downton Abbey Season 3

It’s been slow going on catching up with TV series, but I hope to finish all of season 3 by end of Summer. We’ll see how it goes!

Movie of the Month

InsideOut_poster

It’s an easy pick this month. Inside Out is truly one of Pixar’s best, entertaining as well as heartwarming and insightful. Spy Me and Earl and the Dying Girl are both VERY good though, those would make my top 3 of the month.

So that’s my June recap. What’s YOUR fave movie(s) you saw this month?

  1. I have personally found it very difficult to write creatively and also devote the time and care needed to run a quality blog. Visiting and commenting one’s followers is important and enjoyable. It’s not much fun if you take the time to read and comment and the other side won’t. Good luck with your creative writing–As a general rule, I’m down to one post a week and writing the manuscript every day. I’m sure you will find a balance! Good luck.

    1. Hi Cindy! Yeah it’s really challenging indeed, but I do love blogging and interacting w/ fellow film fans. But this narrative endeavor is exciting as it’s a new challenge for me. Thanks for the well wishes, I may email you one day for some tips! 😀

  2. I haven’t seen many movies this month, but I’d say Ex Machina was my favorite. What did you think of Galavant? It’s such a silly little show, but I find it rather witty and very amusing. I wish it had a wider audience to ensure a second season but I can’t really blame people.

    1. Hello Sofia! I grew up watching Alan Menken’s songs so he’s the main draw. I ended up enjoying the show, yes it’s silly but it’s supposed to be. I had a few laughs with it and I think season 2 is in the works, at least I hope it is!

  3. The film of the month for me is The Long Goodbye as I was just sucked into the story and mystery along with Robert Altman’s approach to just playing with the schematics that is often expected in the film noir genre.

    1. Inside Out definitely lives up to the hype which is always nice to hear. Oh Calvary is one I still need to see but I love Brendan Gleeson!

  4. Have you decided what your script will be about? It’s okay if it’s top secret. 😉

Jurassic World was a lot of fun for me, nothing too serious or too deep, just fun! 😀

    1. Yeah I’ve written the chapter summary from start to finish. All I can tell you for now is it’s a drama and both of the lead characters are actors 😃

  5. Good luck with writing your first script. I have to wait until August for Inside Out ):
Hopefully MI5 will be a fun summer blockbuster, I enjoyed Mission Impossible 4.

    1. Thanks Chris! Man that’s a long time in between release dates, I really don’t get how these films are distributed. You’d think a Pixar movie would drop around the same time worldwide.

Yeah I enjoyed MI4 too, I hope MI5 will be as much fun!

  6. Just saw Terminator Genisys last night, you didn’t miss anything. They need to stop with this franchise if they can’t make anything new or fresh. Finally saw Jurassic World last weekend, I was not impressed with it either, I didn’t care for any of the characters and the effects were shockingly bad for a $150mil+ film. The new director is obviously not as talented as Spielberg. Odd pacing and not very excited action sequences, it’s a good example of an average director making his first big tent pole picture.

Also, another new movie I saw in June was Kingsmen, I really enjoyed that one so I guess it’s my movie of the month.

    1. Hi Ted, yeah I figure I won’t miss much on Genisys, I’ll probably just rent it. It’s mind boggling how many people LOVE Jurassic World and they must’ve gone to see it repeatedly. Heh I can’t imagine seeing that again anytime soon, I’d rather rewatch the original Jurassic Park again.

Kingsman was a lot of fun, I saw that months ago, I might rent it again at some point.

    1. Hi Fernando! Ahah, I think Jurassic World might end up in the not-so-good list of the year for me.

My script is rather slow going, I’m doing research right now and reading a bunch of script of my fave movies just to get the hang of it. But I’ve got my casting picks done and I’ve also written my chapter summary from start to finish 😀

    1. Hey at least you got to see Inside Out which was easily the winner amongst disappointing blockbusters like Jurassic World and Terminator Genisys.

  7. Good luck on the script!

I’m really looking forward to Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, which I’ll probably miss in theaters. Glad you saw A Most Wanted Man. Love that one. It’s great that Inside Out is your movie of the month, too. Pixar is back!

    1. Thanks Josh!

Yeah, do rent Me and Earl and the Dying Girl if you miss it in theaters. I don’t love A Most Wanted Man, but I do love PSH’s performance in it. Yeah, glad to see Pixar back in top form!
