Trailer Spotlight: BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE -Kingsley Ben-Adir stars as the reggae legend

Happy Friday!! I saw this late yesterday and I just had to post it. Even if you don’t regularly listen to reggae, it’s hard to deny the power of Bob Marley‘s music. He became massively popular in the 1960s, but his influence is still felt to this day. Marley brought more visibility to Jamaican music, distinctly synonymous with good vibes, peace, and harmony. One of his greatest hits, One Love, was named Song of the Millennium by the BBC, so it’s fitting that it’s included in the movie title.

ONE LOVE celebrates the life and music of an icon who inspired generations through his message of love and unity. On the big screen for the first time, discover Bob’s powerful story of overcoming adversity and the journey behind his revolutionary music.

Produced in partnership with the Marley family, the film stars Kingsley Ben-Adir as the legendary musician and Lashana Lynch as his wife Rita. Ben-Adir, who’s of Trinidadian and British Jewish heritage, is everywhere these days and I can’t be happier!! Ever since I saw him in One Night in Miami, where he portrayed Malcolm X, I saw he’s got that star quality. He’s currently playing the villain in Disney’s Secret Invasion and will soon be seen in the Barbie movie as one of the Kens. He certainly looks the part as Marley and I trust he’ll do the role justice.

This trailer has such an infectious energy, but it also highlights the dark moments in his life, including the assassination attempt in 1976 at his own home. Directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green (King Richard), and partly produced by Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment, the project is a family affair as well. Ziggy Marley, Bob Marley’s son, is one of the producers. Per Indiewire, he presented the film at CinemaCon, “I’m here as a producer of this film, but also as a steward of my father’s incredible legacy, this message of unity and love is as urgent as ever.”

I’m a huge fan of Lashana Lynch AND James Norton who plays Jamaican-British record producer Chris Blackwell who helped forge Marley’s career (Norton has been in the running to play James Bond, so I can’t help but wish to see him and Lynch in a Bond movie together, ha!) Tosin Cole, Anthony Welsh, Michael Gandolfini, Umi Myers, and Nadine Marshall round up the cast.

I trust the filmmakers would honor Marley in this biopic and surely the movie is going to sound amazing! BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE is in theatres on January 12, 2024. I’m not exactly looking forward to Winter yet, but I can’t wait to see this movie!!

I used to listen to Bob Marley‘s music all the time back in my younger years, still do once in a while. I’m not a fan of bio pics but this one does look interesting. I just started watching Secret Invasion and Kingsley Ben-Adir is the only interesting character in the show so far. If they’re ever going to cast a non-white person as 007, he gets my vote. He has the charisma and physically, he fits the part. As for this movie, I’ll wait till it hits streaming. I highly doubt it will be playing at premium theaters. At home, I can watch it in 4k and Dolby Atmos,

I take back my comment about Kingsley Ben-Adir’s physical, he’s only 5’7, so he’s definitely not fit physically for Bond. Lol!

    2. I love Kingsley Ben-Adir in Secret Invasion, I hope he gets bigger roles down the line. I know Hollywood is in love with Regé-Jean Page but Kingsley has more of an edge that makes him really intriguing to watch.

There is no way Kingsley is only 5’7″ as he towers over a lot of people on screen. I know they can make Tom Cruise seem much taller but they won’t do that for unknowns. If you see him in this photo next to Djimon Honsou and Eric Bana, he looks at least 6 feet!

Yeah, he looks taller in Secret Invasion but then again many actors looks taller on screen than in real life.

I thought Regé-Jean Page is headlining the reboot of The Saint. If he’s still on board that project, he won’t be in consideration as the next 007.

  2. I do like Kingsley Ben-Adir as I’m enjoying what he’s doing in Secret Invasion and I love the music of Bob Marley but this looks very conventional and almost like every other bio-pic as that’s a no for me. Bob Marley was anything but conventional and I’ve seen documentaries about his life and such as I’m afraid the film won’t go into the nuances while I’m wondering what they will do with other notable figures in Marley’s life such as his fellow Wailers in Peter Tosh and Bunny Livingston who were both instrumental in their role in the music of the Wailers.

    1. I suppose a narrative feature might not be as comprehensive as a documentary but given Marley’s own family is producing this, I trust that they’d honor Bob Marley’s life and do him justice. I’d reserve my judgment until I see the final film.
