Guardians of the Galaxy’s Rocket Raccoon (voiced by Bradley Cooper) Appreciation Post

I just saw Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 last week, which is going to be the last of the franchise by James Gunn featuring the same group of actors. It wouldn’t be a spoiler to say that Gunn made it a Rocket Raccoon-centric story and I’m glad he did as he’s easily my favorite non-human character in the franchise. Actually, right from the first GOTG movie, the Bradley Cooper-voiced character is often the MVP amongst this ragtag group of misfits. He’s no-nonsense, irritable, impassioned, full of rage but hilarious as hell, he’s certainly got some of the best lines!

The nine-time Oscar nominee (four of them in acting) does a phenomenal voice job, though apparently, a former Marvel/Disney exec didn’t like his voice as it didn’t sound like Bradley Cooper’s own voice, to which Gunn replied, ‘…we hired him because he’s a great ACTOR. That’s the point! He’s creating a CHARACTER!”

Rocket may be the smallest member of GOTG but he’s definitely the most intelligent one on top of being a masterful tactician as well as an expert weapon specialist. His name is a nod to the Beatles’ 1968 song Rocky Raccoon, though Vol. 3 will feature his origin story which also includes how he got the name,. It proves to be more emotional than I ever expected.

People who haven’t seen any GOTG movies would probably think of Rocket as a dumb, silly animatronic, but there’s definitely more than meets the eye, and in Vol. 3, his character is even more fleshed out.

Every time I watch Rocket, whether in a Guardians movie or in Avengers, the fiery furball is always a riot!!

“Aint no thing like me, Except Me”

So here’s a compilation of Rocket being iconic:

BONUS: I gotta include this scene of Rocket counseling the sad and depressed Thor from Avengers: Endgame. It’s a funny scene but also shows Rocket’s wisdom and hints that he’s known loss and heartbreak before.

Stay tuned for my full review of GOTG Vol 3 next week!

In the meantime, what are some of your fave Rocket scenes?

  1. Bradley Cooper is underrated as Rocket as I love that character. Especially in both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame in the way he conversed with Thor. I am going to see the new film this coming weekend as I just hope it’s not Quantumania as I don’t think I will rewatch that for a long time. That was such a disappointment.
