Woo wee!! I was quite busy with work yesterday that I didn’t even realize it was Disney Investor Day yesterday. Or you might as well call it ‘Disney-take-all-my-money-Day’ given the drool-worthy Marvel Phase 4 trailers being released, as well as new revelations that got me jumping for joy!
If you missed it, there are a few videos posted on Youtube where Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige introduced all the slates coming in the next year or so:
Man, it’s gotta be good to be Kevin Feige… I mean, how many producers get to be involved with SO MANY films that people can’t wait to see. It’s amazing how Marvel managed to connect their feature film slate with their TV series offerings, as Feige mentioned as the ‘inter-connected-ness of all the stories’ within the universe. It just goes to show how well-managed the Marvel franchise is compared to its rival DC.
Anyhoo, if you’d rather just watch the individual trailers, here are a few I’m super excited about:
LOKI
Out of ALL the Marvel series going to Disney+, LOKI is my most anticipated because I LOVE Tom Hiddleston‘s portrayal. He actually made me love the villain more than the hero (sorry Chris Hemsworth!)
Oh I love the changing font for the LOKI logo, it’s perfect for the god of mischief!
WandaVision
When I first heard of WandaVision series, I was kind of meh about it… that is until I saw the concept, setting it in 1950s as the unlikely couple are living the ideal suburban life in the town of Westview, trying to conceal their powers. Such a freakin’ brilliant concept!! Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany look like they’re having a blast in the roles, and now I can’t wait to see this on January 15, 2021!
Falcon & the Winter Soldier
I’m really hoping this one would be good as I LOVE Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan. Captain America is my favorite Marvel trilogy and these are two extremely handsome + talented actors reprising their roles from the franchise, and this trailer looks fun and action-packed. Yet… somehow there’s something wanting, which makes me a bit worried that it won’t be as good as I expected, but hey, I hope they’d prove me wrong come March 19, 2021.
I wish there were a trailer for Shang–Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, the first Asian-led superhero movie, starring the Chinese-Canadian Simu Liu in the title role.
I’m super excited to see an Asian director at the helm, Destin Daniel Cretton (Just Mercy), and starring a bunch of amazing East-Asian actors: Tony Leung, Awkwafina, Michelle Yeoh, Fala Chen, Meng’er Zhang, Florian Munteanu, and Ronny Chieng. Finally, we’ve got representation for the large Asian audience!
Speaking of representation, this is a series I haven’t heard about but am excited about!
A new series called Ms. Marvel, is apparently in the works! Newcomer Iman Vellani will star as Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel in the series, which is set to arrive on Disney+ in late 2021! The series will center on Kamala Khan — a 16-year-old Pakistani-American growing up in Jersey City. A great student, avid gamer, and voracious fan-fic scribe, Kamala has a special affinity for Super Heroes, particularly Captain Marvel. Check out the teaser below:
Exciting Announcements
Well this is old news to some, but it’s still cool to see this brilliant casting news confirmed officially! As if we needed another reason to be excited about THOR: Love and Thunder, Christian Bale will be playing the villain, Gorr The God Butcher. Woo hoo!! I guess he’s taking a note from his former co-star & fellow Oscar-winner Cate Blanchett who seemed to have the time of her life playing Thor’s sister/villainess Hela, The Goddess of Death.
This video shows all the announcements for some highly-anticipated shows! I remember a month ago or so, while I was watching PERRY MASON which also stars Tatiana Maslany, there were talks that she’s going to play She Hulk, which she denied. But looks like it IS official that she will portray the character! Interesting to see Tim Roth will reprise his role in The Incredible Hulk as Abomination.
I wish they’d released at least a teaser for ETERNALS, which is what Feige said as ‘unexplored territories of the Marvel universe.’ The cast looks amazing!! But I’m equally excited for the director at the helm, Chloé Zhao.

Per IO9, it’s her Manga vision is partly what got her the director’s job. Per the IO9 article, Zhao is quoted as saying “I have such deep, strong, manga roots… I brought some of that into Eternals. And I look forward to pushing more of that marriage of East and West.” That marriage, Zhao thinks, could put Eternals on par—at least thematically—with the last big Marvel movie. “How much further and bigger can we go after Endgame? Because I’m not just making the film as a director. I’m making the film as a fan.”
Whoa!! Now I’m even more excited to see ETERNALS!! But man, such a long wait for this one as it won’t be released until Nov 5, 2021.
Now, not every single announcement got me excited however, this one actually made me LOL-ed and cringe at the same time… ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ Holiday Special.
Even seeing this here makes me laugh. One of my favorite stories ever, which I have bugged @Kevfeige endlessly about over the years. I can’t believe we’re actually doing this. And, yes, I unironically loved the Star Wars Holiday Special as a kid. pic.twitter.com/JjymrARoV7
— James Gunn (@JamesGunn) December 11, 2020
Wait, what?? Apparently James Gunn will also direct this Live-Action Holiday Special in 2022 Before Vol. 3 Arrives in 2023, and he obviously is excited about it. O-kaaay 😀
Well, that’s the scoop about Marvel Phase 5. Which series are you most excited to see?
…
…
I’ll probably end up watching all of these shows and movies that were announced yesterday. Loki looks like it’s going to be fun. I’m definitely looking forward to The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, it appears they kept the style of the last two Capt. America films. I’m curious about Shang–Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, the only comic character of Marvel that I read was The Punisher and I think Shang appeared in one of those comics.
Hey Ted! Yeah, been so excited for LOKI, seems like it takes so long for these series to arrive, then there’s the pandemic on top of it. I’m really hoping Falcon & Winter Soldier is good as I absolutely love the franchise, esp The Winter Soldier. I’m not familiar w/ Shang-Chi at all but excited for it for obvious reasons 🙂
Shang-Chi was basically created when Bruce Lee became a super star in the early 70s, they pretty much modeled the character to look like Bruce Lee. In fact, in late 80s/early 90s when Brandon Lee was going to be a big star here in the States, Stan Lee was planning a film version with Brandon as Shang-Chi. Of course Brandon died and the project never went anywhere until early 2000s when talks of a film version was going around Hollywood. I don’t remember who was in talks to star at the time and who was writing and directing the film.
Wow!! I love all the trivia you’re sharing, Ted. I had no idea Brandon Lee was gonna play a character modeled after his dad and made by Stan Lee!! Wish this had materialized, still sad over what happened to that family 😓
Yeah, it’s really sad what happened to both Bruce and Brandon, they were on the verge of becoming super stars in Hollywood but both died too early. Guess that rumor about the curse that was put on Bruce Lee is true. Joel Silver and a bunch of other big time action movie producers already planned a lot of their films for Brandon Lee, they expected his star power was going to be big after The Crow opened. Also, at the time both Sly’s and Arnold’s star power were slowing down and Hollywood’s looking for their new action star.
I don’t know if it’s really a curse, but it’s hard not to think that. Both are amazingly talented yet gone far too soon. I don’t think even today there’s anyone that could match the charisma and martial arts prowess of Bruce Lee.
Honestly, this was too much for me to deal with. Disney+ really has a lot to offer. The Star Wars stuff was awesome but this was too much for me to deal with. So many new projects to come… damn… I want them all.
I think the project I’m eager to see the most is Ms. Marvel as I heard incredible things about the comics/graphic novel as it was praised by Barack Obama of all people. I saw her superpowers in the most recent Avengers video game and she’s cool. A TV show about a Pakistani-American teenage girl with superpowers and to be helmed by people of Indian-Pakistani descent is just exciting.
Loki looks so much fun as I have the perfect ending for the second season. It should involve Thor as the 2 brothers have just survived another adventure. They’re both at their respective houses as Loki goes into his secret cave to find that Thor had fallen for Loki’s prank until Loki realizes he’s been pranked. The two then decide to sit, relax, and play Fortnite with the other people of the MCU. They’re all having a good time until they meet an old foe… Noobmaster69. All of the heroes, associates, and so on put on their masks/helmets, and whatever as they get ready to fight Noobmaster 69 with Thor holding an audio clip of Captain America saying… “Avengers… Assemble”. The End.
Wandavision… the Monkees made me want to see it even more. I’m excited for all of these projects as I love the MCU and for them to be something for everyone. I think there will be a day that a Latino superhero movie will come and oh man… my mother would go out and see it.
Hey Steven, yeah it’s really a lot isn’t it? I was gonna blog about the Star Wars one too (ANDOR teaser looks good), but I could barely keep up w/ the Marvel news!
That’s awesome about Ms Marvel and yes, having a female lead AND filmmakers of Indian-Pakistani are definitely all the more reason to be excited for it.
LOVE your idea for LOKI season 2 finale, though w/ Hiddles in it, I hope the series will have more than just 2 seasons!
WandaVision’s concept seems really brilliant, I hope they’ll pull it off! Glad we don’t have to wait for too long for that one.
‘Disney-take-all-my-money-Day’ – like it! I’ve actually just renewed my Disney+ subscription after letting it lapse over the summer.
I’m very, very excited for WandaVision. Trailer looks intriguing and – from what we can see – the costumes and sets look fantastic.
I actually binged the Avengers series over the last year so looking forward to Falcon & The Winter Soldier, Black Widow and Loki as well. I agree about Loki’s logo – looks great! And Owen Wilson looks waaaaay different.
Great to see that there are lots of female directors lined up.
I’ve got high hopes for Thor: Love and Thunder, and I’m a fan of Mahershala Ali so looking forward to Blade.
Oh and the Holiday Special of The Guardians of the Guardian should be good fun. And OVER THE MOON about the I Am Groot shorts!
Whoops – The Guardians of the Galaxy!
Hi Claire, I just think Disney+ isn’t giving us a reason NOT to subscribe, I mean there are shows to be excited about all the way thru 2022! I’m sure they’ll keep continuing Phase 5 with great content, and the fact that they tie quite well w/ the feature films is just amazing.
I LOL-ed seeing Owen Wilson in LOKI, but in a good way. I think Wilson and Hiddleston became friends when they made Midnight in Paris, I even remember Hiddles impersonating Wilson in Graham Norton, ha!
Ah yes, BLADE! Man I can’t wait for that too, wish there were at least a teaser for it but they haven’t even began filming yet. Ahah, I knew what you meant that it’s Guardians of the Galaxy. I think it’s a silly idea but I’m sure it’ll be a hoot!
Lots to sink into here! The move to television isn’t surprising, but it does sort of worry me, especially after how much theaters have suffered. But either way, I’m not sure which one excites me most. Loki maybe, as lots of connections could be made there to lots of other parts of the universe. She-Hulk is also one that could be really interesting, and Maslany is an excellent actress. I also think Ms. Marvel has a lot of promise that could connect with a lot of people.
I really hope that the Guardians special is campy as all else!
Hey Ian! I’m sad about brick n mortar theaters but at the same time I think it’s a long time coming, the pandemic just expedited its demise.
Loki is my most anticipatef for the reasons you mentioned, plus Hiddles is just so watchable!!
What I’d like to know is what’s happening with the Fox archive. Is that coming to Disney+ or more likely they’ll set up an adult version for their R-rated / NC-17 stuff and force us to pay for another subscription service.
It would be good to see from Disney a commitment to ensure their films get a chance to play solely in theatres for a period of time to help an industry desperate for assistance from the biggest players. It’s clear their upcoming slate would – under normal circumstances – guarantee huge box office returns. Of course, that is COVID-restriction reliant.
That said, I’m still excited about many of these movies. It’s the stuff I’m probably not expecting to be great that I’ll end up loving. Eg. Guardians of the Galaxy was new to me and is still one of my faves from the MCU.
The TV stuff I’ll probably not get around to. I always find 10/20 etc. hours of TV a daunting amount to consume. I’d rather watch 5 to 10 movies instead. 🙂
