THIS JUST IN! X-Men: First Class trailer is finally here!

I’ve had the X-Men Facebook page up all day long but it’s been a hectic day filled w/ meetings. But when I hit refresh a few minutes ago, voila!! You already know how much I’ve been anticipating this and was hoping this was released during the Superbowl. But now it’s finally here! I don’t want to keep you a moment longer, so behold…

Looks like they’ve also released the official logo, which is the same as the one I posted with the still photos I posted earlier this month.

The Plot:

X-MEN FIRST CLASS charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga, and reveals a secret history of famous global events. Before mutants had revealed themselves to the world, and before Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Not archenemies, they were instead at first the closest of friends, working together with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to prevent nuclear Armageddon. In the process, a grave rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-Men.

My initial reaction is OMG! Holy goosebumps!!! I’m really digging the tone that Matthew Vaughn’s done for this film, this certainly promises greatness that Bryan Singer brought with the first ever X-Men film 11 years ago (boy, time flies doesn’t it?) It’s perfect casting to have James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender as Professor X and Magneto. I’m glad the film is focusing on the dynamics between the two and how the most bitter enemies sometimes start out as friends. The rest of the cast is pretty good, too: Nicholas Hoult, Jennifer Lawrence  (one of this year’s Best Actress nominees for Winter’s Bone), Rose Byrne, Kevin Bacon and January Jones.

I absolutely CAN’T WAIT to see this one. Now, what do you all think?

I thought the trailer looks pretty great and I trust Vaughn so the actual film will be great too. Fox should’ve listened to him when he was supposed to direct X-Men 3, if they did we wouldn’t have gotten the awful last chapter of the X-Men saga.

    1. Yeah, that one was just bad. I’ve noticed that in superhero trilogys they always end up putting too much into one movie to make it seem epic, and it almost always ends badly. SPiderman 3 had the exact same problem imo

    2. I know… and to actually go to Brett Ratner, ugh! Glad that he finally has a chance to redeem the franchise and bring this closer to what Singer did with the first one.

@ Julian – I’m not crazy about the 3rd Spidey flick either. What is it with the 3rd sequels of superhero movies?

  2. Looks like it has potential. While i am not sure i am totally sold on it yet, i am looking forward to it more than before.

And i must i was kind of surprised at jennifer being cast as Mystique as first, and i wasn’t sure she could pull off the morally ambiguous seductress character of Mystique. It wasn’t that her performance in Winters BOne was bad, she just didn’t seem the type. But after seeing that trailer…well, lets just say i’m seeing a whole new side of her 🙂

Also, did you get my email?

    1. Well if you’re already looking forward to it more than before then they’ve done their job 🙂

I haven’t seen Winter’s Bone so can’t comment on Jennifer. She obviously is a good actress based on what people’s been saying about her performance so she probably can pull off the seductive side of Mystique.

      Yep, I’ve replied your email.

  3. Ah, I was also anxious today about the trailer, and I already have a post ready for tomorrow 🙂
I didn’t really like the atmosphere in the trailer, it didn’t bring anything new, innovative or exciting.
But I do love McAvoy and Fassbender and some of the young guys in the cast! Can’t wait to see more of JanuaryJones.

    1. Looks like you posted it today, Dezzy, I already left my comment on it 🙂 You didn’t like the atmosphere?? What, what?? Well maybe I’m easy to please but I love everything about it, even the music is cool. McAvoy and Fassbender are obviously a major plus.

      1. that’s because my today begins earlier that yours, Flixy due to almost ten hour time difference 🙂
Yes, atmosphere was to slow for me and I didn’t find it unique, it looked to me like any other XMEN film we’ve seen so far. But I do love the looks of McAvoy, Fassbender, Hoult and Laundry Jones in the trailer!

  4. I, too, had been waiting all day and was at work trying to check periodically. As soon as I got home I saw it had JUST posted! Immediately it received due attention on my blog! haha I thought about you and checked your page….sure enough, I knew you would have it too! 🙂 It looks great!! Fassbender really does look like a great Erik/Magneto

    1. I’d have posted it sooner had it not been for all those meetings. But I actually already have a post in my draft ready to go, so I just need the YouTube link and the post went up within 5 minutes 😀

  6. im still looking forward to film, but isnt the trailer just a bit, well, flat? didnt get much goosebump action going. hopefully it will back up my long standing theory of crap trailer = good film (and vice versa)

    1. I think this is more of the case of good trailer = good film for me, McG 😀 But your theory does hold up on a LOT of movies!

Glad you’re able to view the YouTube vid, sometimes they remove things after a while so I have to keep finding one that works.

  7. Whoa…cool trailer!

I’m not really into X-Men as I always watch it when it appears in TV…but this one looks really great. Maybe I’ll walk to cinema for this.

    1. This’ll be worth watching on the big screen, Nov. Y’know I was thinking the other day, it’d be nice if Cillian have a cameo in this 😀

  8. I’m sure this’ll be fine and all, but I can’t get past the fact that if they hadn’t written themselves into a corner with ‘X-Men: The Last Stand’, this movie would not be necessary.

    1. You’re probably right about ‘writing themselves into a corner,’ Rich, but at the same time I have no problem w/ them going back to the origins story, especially w/ this cast.

  9. I can’t say the trailer thrills me but I think that’s because I gave up on the X-Men series a long while ago. Love the casting choices though and the historical relevance of the story.

  10. It looks a lot more decent than I had expected – However, I think maybe Michael F. should stick with Rochester for the moment…I’m not quite sure how successfully he’ll fit into this genre – I guess we’ll have to wait and see 🙂

    1. Y’know it’s funny, I was initially far more excited about JE than this one but I think now I’m psyched for both. From what I’ve seen, Fassbender seems perfect for both, decidedly-very-different roles and that’s a testament to his versatility.

  11. I’m happy that they released this trailer cause this does look very cool and exciting now. The casting of younger actors is what may help this film out in the long run, mainly because McAvoy and Fassbender have proven to be amazing in their own films, so it’ll be cool to see how they do with a superhero script. Can’t wait for this!
