Happy Friday all!
Those who are a bit of a Twitter addict (like me) or have a Twitter account you visit from time to time, y’know all it’s #FF time (it’s follow friday in case you didn’t know, which is an effective way to promote friends & followers by recommending them to your own followers).
I don’t use Facebook at all, never had much interest in it and I don’t think I ever will. But I LOVE Twitter! In fact, watching the Golden Globes last Sunday was much more fun as I’m ‘conversing’ with my Twitter pals, 140 characters at a time.
Well, one of the coolest things that happens on the micro blogging site is when someone retweet your tweet so their followers can see it, too. It’s quite a compliment when someone thinks your tweet is interesting enough to share to others. It’s apparently such a phenomenon that there are even a bunch of paraphernalia out there displaying sentiments about retweet, such as this t-shirt. And given its popularity, a Twitter movie is inevitable. In fact, someone made a mock trailer of a Twitter movie, as you can see they’re poking fun at the other popular social network site ๐
Anyway, I had the idea to post this when I saw this tweet that was retweeted by director Edgar Wright whom I follow:
…
…
P.S. If you haven’t already, would you follow me on Twitter? ๐
Yeah, Crowe or Fillion would be my picks. But I’d have to follow them, first. I don’t like following celebs for some reason. ๐
I only followed about 5-6 celebs I think, the first one was Fillion as his tweets are pretty funny. If only GB has an account but I think he’d be bombarded and overwhelmed pretty quickly.
I followed you(My twitter is ThatbadassJC), although i barely use my twitter anymore. I use Facebook far more
And as for celebrities i would like to be retweeted by, i’m not sure. I suppose a retweet by Deborah Ann Woll would be nice, although i have no idea if she has a twitter account
Well you can just search her name. Usually if it a famous person, their account would be verified.
Oh I didn’t know you’re on Twitter. I just followed you now.
Oh btw i’ve been wondering, what is the process for submitting stuff to imdb? I think i asked this before, but didn’t get a reply
Oh sorry, I might’ve missed that. You can go to the IMDb homepage and at the bottom, there’s a link below the Hit List that says “Have an item you’d like to see featured on Hit List? Submit it here” It basically goes to a forum which then you’d type in the post you want to be considered. Here’s the link: http://www.imdb.com/board/bd0000089/threads/?p=1
Thanks. I was thinking of posting some of my more discussion focused topics there(The one about the media and the female superhero one). Do they accept links to older stuff?
I wish Nolan or Fincher would use Twitter but they don’t, if they do I’d follow both of them. I don’t follow actors/actresses, the only two famous people I follow are Jon Favrau and Frank Mashall (the producer of Indiana Jones films and a bunch of other big movies.)
Yeah, I’d follow them in a heartbeat too, mostly for updates on their projects as I doubt they’d use Twitter just for fun. I follow Favreau also, but he doesn’t tweet that often.
I’m the reverse; I use Facebook and not Twitter, though if I did, I suppose I’d follow someone like Kevin Smith.
Hi Rick, I’ve seen you on AM a lot, welcome to FC. Well I don’t follow Kevin but a couple of times I saw his tweet retweeted, I think he’s use Twitter a lot.
He’s using it a lot more these days. He’s not doing any press for Red State so he’s been promoting it through tweets and press releases.
Well then by all means get yourself a Twitter account and tweet stuff about that flick, chances are you’ll get retweeted by him.
For sure I won’t be doing anything of the sort as I can’t stand him [sorry Rich]
Quite alright; I know he’s not for everybody.
I remain ambivalent about Twitter. I would only want to use it for promotional purposes. Maybe if my film blog takes off I’ll start an account.
Actually Rich, I started using Twitter when I just started blogging and it actually helped me get traffic and exposure, so I’d say give it a shot. You might actually enjoy it. What I like the most about Twitter is that I get updated movie news a lot quicker through there than from other sources. Let me know when you’re on it and I’ll follow you ๐
My tweets were already retweeted once by Jenna Dewan (Channing Tatum’s wife when I wrote that she will star in some superhero film) and by young Cody Deal the star of THE THOR ALMIGHTY who also sent a message ๐
There’s also a number of younger actors who retweeted my posts when they were mentioned in them ๐
I wouldn’t mind if that happens with Karl Urban, Cate Blanchett, Justin Timberlake, Patrick Wilsion and Henry Cavill ๐
Oh awesome Dezzy, but I’m hardly surprised. I think a lot of younger actors are on Twitter a lot so that’s neat that they notice your tweet.
Oh of course I’d LOVE to be retweeted by the people you mention, though I don’t know if any of them is on Twitter.
Ohh….now thats a difficult question! None of my 21 tweets have been retweeted ๐ฆ so any retweet would be exciting! But I would love to be retweeted by Neil Patrick Harris or Nathan Fillion. Am also really enjoying John Clees’s tweets!
I had no idea you were on twitter! Have now added you ๐
Hi Vanessa, I’ve added you too! Well I think we should tweet these people directly more often, maybe they’ll notice us that way ๐ I’ll check out John Clee’s tweets now that you mention it, I bet he’s quite amusing.
Just followed you!
Anyways, I love whenever ANYONE retweets me. It happens so rarely, that when it does happen, it’s such a cool moment… like wow, someone actually like what I said enough to repeat it to their followers. Anyone was the Jossverse though would be my top choice.
Hey Ryan, I’ve followed you too. Yes, retweet is great though I’m finding that a lot of my British twitter pals retweet my stuff more often for some reason, which is cool!
What is Jossverse??
Shows/films that Joss Whedon have done is usually called Jossverse or Whedonverse. So anyone from Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Dr. Horrible, Dollhouse, etc. ๐
Ah I see… duh, I should’ve known that!
being retweeted by you last week rtm has been the blogging highlight of 2011 so far.
Ahah, very funny Mr. McG!
who’s joking?
I’d like to be retweeted by David Mamet. Dude would make anything I wrote sound cooler than the way I wrote it.
BTW, consider yourself followed!
Right back at cha, Keith! So is David Mamet on Twitter? He’d be a good one for me to follow too.
I was retweeted by PBS last week, which made me pretty happy. But Edgar Wright is the RT White Whale.
Oooh, congrats John, but that’s a really cool post you did on PBS American Experience. Peeps, you should check it out if you haven’t already: http://t.co/zfYTNgn
Edgar Wright is in twitter?
I will stalk him from now on ๐
I am not hoping to be re-tweeted by any famous people…but I love it when they reply me. I once replied by Ken Kitamura (and I still save the twit even though he was only saying thank you) as he is the guitarist of my number one favorite band.
Unfortunately, cillian doesn’t (and probably will never) have twitter…so no hope of getting re-tweeted by him then.
He..he.. yep he is Nov, so stalk away ๐
That’s cool that someone from your fave band replied to you. Yeah I guess I should not limit it to just retweet, a reply would be just as cool!
Yeah, GB isn’t on Twitter either, I don’t even know if that guy is computer savvy, ha..ha.. but no matter, as long as he just focus on making good flicks.
I wonder will he read my pitch if I twitted him ๐
…I don’t know about being retweeted but after Kevin Smith’s Twitter rants I am still afraid he’ll see my tweet linking to my review of Zack and Miri Make a Porno. I did, after all, slate that terrible movie.
Well I think he’s too busy ranting about his air travel experience to notice people trashing his movies.
That vid/trailer was pretty funny! I don’t tweet, but I just posted it on my facebook! ๐
Yeah I thought that was a hoot! Why don’t you tweet, T? I was actually looking for a Tweet button on one of your posts last week.
i’ve never gotten into it. Never saw why. I pretty much use facebook and that’s it. Perhaps one day. Which post were you looking for the tweet button? It should be at the bottom of every one…..I’ll have to investigate! ๐
It does bring some traffic. You should try!
I think I was gonna share your Black Swan review, but ended up just including it in my post instead.
I don’t follow any celebrity! They should be following me ๐ So no, I could care less.
Right, obviously you’re a celebrity yourself.
Hehe I couldn’t help not to smile at this….but you got a point there Castor, they should be following you and read AM as people are talking about them (and sometime ranting about them)
Try as I might, I just can’t remain consistent on Twitter. I use it for a few days and then drift away for weeks. Everything disappears so quickly it seems like whatever you write is sp far down the list within minutes you needn’t have bothered. Too disposable for my liking.
But I recognise its value as a promotional tool, so I’ll just pick whichever celebrity has the most followers. ๐
It is a fast-paced (for lack of a better word) social media tool, Rich, but I actually kinda like it. Well if your tweet falls down below quickly, you can always tweet again ๐
I usually find celebs who have funny tweets, like Simon Pegg.
HBC, Nicole Kidman or Annette Bening…but none of them are actually on twitter. So, ummm, Jane Fonda – because she’s whip smart so if she ever retweets me it’lll mean I’m a smart.
