Hello everyone, I’m back from London!

Hello again everyone! Finally back from London Friday Saturday (d’oh! Thanks Becky) night after a slight flight delay due to a security breach, where we had to vacate the plane and be re-boarded one by one! But hey, considering all travel woes from the volcanic ash, I really can’t complain about how smooth our trip was. Not to mention the gorgeous weather we’ve had in all seven days – it only rained very briefly when we were in Trafalgar Square, but by the time we got out of the tube station five minutes later, it was dry again! Suffice to say we didn’t have to open our umbrellas once in the entire trip, and was greeted by blue sky and bright sunshine nearly every morning. We had to pinch ourselves and ask, ‘are we really in London?’

The Roman Baths and Temple of Aqua Sulis Minerva

It was overall an unforgettable trip, even a broken hotel room door that left us ‘stranded’ in our own hotel until they could break it in the following morning didn’t dampen our fun-filled holiday. We’re able to visit nearly all of the must-see tourist sights, including my dream flight up the London Eye, as well as a quick getaway to scenic Bath and Windsor.

Well, I miss blogging and reading others’ blogs, but I must say it was a much-needed break from being chained to my desk in front of a computer. I hope to get back on the blogging routine shortly. I should have my next post up by sometime tonight or tomorrow morning, as I’m working on my first ever theater review on this blog of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Love Never Dies, the follow-up to The Phantom of the Opera. I also got to watch the Nelson Mandela rugby-themed biopic Invictus on the plane, so a review on that is forthcoming as well, as well as other stuff I had started before the trip.

Thanks for your continued readership whilst I was away, and thanks again to Vince and Samantha for being a guest blogger last week!

P.S. I forgot to post this pic of ODEON Theater in Leicester Square, which was totally ‘owned’ by Iron Man 2. The area itself wasn’t as grand as I had imagined it, but it’s still cool nonetheless, complete with the young kids making out in the park across from it! 🙂 We didn’t have time to actually see a movie there though, but there’s always next time.

Welcome back! You must still be on BST and maybe left your heart in London too, because you got back on Saturday, not Friday 🙂 And I have to say, London and Lover Never Dies is on my travel list for sure now.

    1. Thanks for the correction. I hit my head last night on one of Ivan’s wall shelf last night, that might have something to do with the day confusion 🙂

If only we could travel together, I certainly won’t mind going back every year if I could!

Welcome back Ruth! Sounds like you have a great time!!!! Wanna hear all about it soon….
Glad you didn’t get stranded cause I heard that “funny name” volcano is spewing clouds of ashes again….
    see ya!

    1. Thanks Julie! We’re so blessed the only travel havoc was the 3-hr delay at Heathrow. Ivan’s still working on compiling the hundreds of photos we took there, I’ll bring those to show on our next movie night ok? Hope to see ya soon.

Glad you made it home fine – although I’m sure you wouldn’t mind being stranded for another week… month… there are worse places to be stuck in:)

    1. You got that right, Vince! In fact, when I woke up Sunday morning I was a bit London-sick, I miss the hustle ‘n bustle of the life there and taking the tube everyday was fun! If I could live and work anywhere in the world, London is definitely one I wouldn’t mind moving to!

  4. Welcome back! Good to hear that you enjoyed your trip. And looks like you got out the UK just in time, airports in Ireland and UK are closed again, because of the volcanic ash…total pain…

    1. Thanks Olive! Yeah, we were stuck in the gate at Heathrow when we saw on the telly that the airport might be closed again, so it was a real close call. If they had canceled our flight we might still be there right now!

  5. Welcome back Ruth. Great to hear you had a fantastic time on your trip 🙂 You really skipped the cold spell we had for a week here in Minny. Lucky you!

    1. Thanks Castor! Cold spell? Well it was in mid-upper 50s all week even with the sometime sunny skies in London, was it colder than that here? But I certainly welcome the string of 70s we’re having now, it’s nice to be able to wear shorts again all day yesterday.

      1. Ah well it did get the low 50’s and we even had one day of near freezing lows! I forgot that it never really gets all that warm (or cold) in Europe.

        1. Ah, what do you expect from good ‘ol Minny, unpredictable is its middle name! 🙂 Yeah, London is mostly chilly this time of year, so we dressed in lots of layers just in case it got a bit warmer during the day.

Welcome home! Consider yourself lucky – if you were away from a computer last week you missed an incredible amount of bile spewing in the direction of Russell Crowe, Ridley Scott, and Robin Hood, which, IMO, was excellent.

Stopping while I’m ahead. 🙂 Glad that your travels went mostly smoothly, and that you had such a great time!

    1. Thanks Sam, it’s good to be back. Yeah, I saw the RT rating of 45%, ouch! I’d still see it and make up my own mind about it. Glad you liked it, seriously how bad can it be with Crowe AND Blanchett in one movie?!

  7. Hey Ruth! Welcome back! It is great that you enjoyed London so much.
Was in London on a drama trip with school a few years ago, got to see Phantom of the Opera and Les Miz, was class. Have friends there, hope to go back soon.
I love watching movies on planes, even bad ones. A good way to pass the ever so slightly nervous time.
Looking forward to reading about Invictus. That was one of my favourite films to review.

    1. Hi Novroz! Thanks, there’s no place like home… though I could certainly use another week hanging around in London. Hope all is well with you. I’m slow in getting back to the blogging groove, but hey, what’s the rush anyway? 🙂

  8. Corinne

Welcome back! I missed you! I hope we can see some more pictures of London and the two cities you visited.

    1. Miss you too, Corinne! It’s nice to be back amongst friends. I’ll email you the link as soon as we’ve got our pics up on Flickr!

  9. Marc

Yeah!! Welcome back Ruth! I’ve never been to Jolly Old but man did your trip make me jealous!! Glad to hear you really enjoyed yourself…

As far as your theatrical experience, would the sequel have been palatable if Gerry played the lead?:P

My wife and I got to see ‘Wicked’ in Australia when we were on our Honeymoon and theater in a different country is (despite the outcome) still a neat thing to say that you did it.

    1. Thanks Marc! Well I haven’t been to land down under so we’re even 🙂

Oh no, the sequel was more than palatable even without GB, Ramin’s got a much better set of pipes surely. But they just can’t top POTO’s music.

So did you like Wicked? It’s a popular show all over the world but I don’t have any desire to see it for some reason, maybe because I don’t care for the Wizard of Oz. But yeah, seeing a stage performance in a different country is an experience in an of itself.

  11. welcome back, RTM, did you bring me some LIPTON, TETLEY or TWININGS black tea? Some British chocolates? No? Yes? An autograph from Jude Law or Kate Winslet? No? 🙂

I’m glad you had a nice trip, I’m closer than you to UK, and still never been there myself 😦

    1. I’ve got some plain breakfast tea over here with Walker shortbread, come and get ’em Dez! I was hoping to run elbows with a few British actors (heck I tend to have a soft spot for them), but alas … There were tons of cute guys all over the place though, there’s one reporter/videographer in front of the House of Parliament covering the new cabinet member change, there’s even pics of him to prove it, ha!

Btw, I’d LOVE to visit your country someday… heard it’s very beautiful. And who knows I might have more chance to bump into a celeb now that they’re filming all kinds of flicks over there 🙂

  12. Glad you enjoyed London 🙂 The odeon is always “owned” by one movie at a time. It’s fun to try and guess what’s going to be there when you wander down.

    1. Hi Katie, oh I didn’t know that, that’s interesting. It’d have been nice to see Iron Man 2 there, but we just didn’t have enough time. I love London, if only we could go back there every year… but it’s just so darn expensive!
