Flix Poster of the Week: DUE DATE

HAPPY FRIDAY all! I realize I haven’t had a poster post for a while, and when I came across this horizontal quad style poster, I knew I had to blog about it. I thought these are hilarious and eye-cathy. Can’t say the same about the trailer though, which is somewhat devoid of laughter IMO.

The plot: High-strung father-to-be Peter Highman is forced to hitch a ride with aspiring actor Ethan Tremblay on a road trip in order to make it to his child’s birth on time.

I don’t quite get the appeal of Zach Galifianakis and even Robert Downey Jr. can’t help entice me to see the movie, yes even in spite of his searing hotness (as my friend Sam astutely noted in her weekend musing). Man, RDJ is like fine wine isn’t he? I first saw him in Less Than Zero (or was it The Pick Up Artist?) back in the 80s, but he hasn’t changed that much 20+ years later!! The guy is 45, yet still hotter than ever and is it just me or does he seem to have fuller hair?? I mean, that guy should be in shampoo commercials!

In any case, I’m finally going to see The Town tonight, looking forward to it after hearing all the positive reviews! With all this rain, it’s perfect moviegoing weather. How about you, what movies are you going to see this weekend?

Extreme Ops: A director (Rufus Sewell) leads his film crew to the Austrian Alps to make a commercial featuring three extreme skiers tailed by an avalanche.

Sounds terrible, I know, but my only expectation from it is to hopefully see Rufus get a lot of screen time. And a travel documentary about England… well not every weekend film can be a blockbuster… ;-D

    1. I’ve never heard of that one, Becky, man that Roof sure has diverse roles doesn’t he? Looks like there’ll be plenty of action in that one.

Travel doc about England… oh, I’d want to transport myself back there!

  2. I think Zach was awesome in the Hangover, but the Due Date trailer didn’t amaze me. Although, to be honest i didn’t have high hopes for the Hangover when it first came out, so maybe it will be another suprise

      1. Yeah, sometimes a good trailer doesn’t guarantee a good movie, nor does a bad trailer means the movie is crap. In any case, the most I’m willing to give this one a watch is on dvd.

  3. Enjoy The Town! I just saw it again last night! It’s definitely worth seeing twice! Caught even more the second time around!
Looking forward Due Date. They filmed parts of it in my city. The scene in the trailer where they fly/flip off of the bridge is literally 5 miles from my house! Enjoy your weekend! 🙂

    1. Hi Scarlet, yeah I enjoyed it too. Not sure I can get to writing my review yet as next week I’m busy volunteering at the Twin Cities Film Fest. That’s cool that they filmed Due Date in your town, where is that? Did you get a glimpse of the set while they were filming?

      1. Las Cruces, NM. Yes, the set was very neat and it stayed on the highway for several days. It was inconvenient as they shut it down during certain parts of the day, but also fun to run over there and watch them. Looks like you had a great time at TCFF! Amazing! They film a lot in my area (Transformers, Burning Plain, Thor, Indiana Jones, etc)…but not many film festivals like yours! Awesome!

        1. Lucky you to have lots of films shot in your area, it’s kinda rare here in the Upper Midwest. Oh, TCFF is just starting tonight Scarlet, but yeah, I’ll have a great time for sure 🙂 Hey maybe you should start NMFF one day he..he..

  4. Due Date seems really really familiar with The Hangover (same director). I’m sure it will be relatively entertaining but I wasn’t as enamored with The Hangover as most people. In any case, it’s nice to see RDJ doing some fluffy straight comedy.

    1. I didn’t realize it was the same director as I haven’t seen The Hangover. I was curious about it but at the same time I don’t think it’s my cup of tea.

  5. Wow.

When I saw the poster I thought it was The Hangover 2. And to be honest it looks like thats exactly what it’s trying to be. Zach is basically playing the same character isn’t he?

What the hell is RDJ doing in this movie? Although if anyone can save it, it’s him. Watching the trailer, there were some funny-ish bits but I’m not sure about this one. Then again, I never saw The Hangover because I didn’t think it would be for me, but then saw it at a friends and loved it.
Jury’s out. Seems like a bit of a weird choice by RDJ though.

    1. He..he… perhaps it was intentional that they made it look like The Hangover given its popularity. I’m quite surprised about RDJ’s involvement in this myself, but as much as I adore the guy I’m not sold on this at all. I’m sure it has its loyal followers and most people who love The Hangover are probably all over this one.

  6. The posters are definitely fun and I like the running gag of so-and-so miles to go, but I agree with most everyone in saying that this film really doesn’t inspire we to run out in theaters to see it.

At this point though, I think RDJ has earned just enough cred to do whatever he wants. Hope there’s a little less of this and a little more Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang.

    1. Hi Ryan, welcome to FC! True what you said about RDJ, he’s really the come-back kid of the decade isn’t he? More power to him!

I like KKBB, it was a hoot and entertaining, but half of the credit goes to Val Kilmer, and Zach G. is no Val Kilmer.
