THIS JUST IN! The Dark Knight Rises Trailer 4

WHOA!!! I didn’t think it would be possible for me to get more pumped up about The Dark Knight Rises but Nolan just keeps upping the ante. This latest — and perhaps last — trailer is defintely PURE EPICNESS!!

Yes, yes I realize it’s the geek in me speaking with mouth frothing with excitement, but really, I don’t think I’ll be disappointed with this one. I like the story angle where Batman has been semi-retired for a number of years after his battle with The Joker, and so he’s sort of unprepared and obviously overwhelmed by the scale of the attack Bane and his ‘army’ set on Gotham. Christian Bale looks convincingly dumbfounded, discombobulated, even, though I’m loving his disheveled look with the long hair. So that plotline in itself is very intriguing and make you feel even more for our dark knight.

I’m not afraid. I’m angry.

But then he turns around and see Bane [shudder].

Seriously, that mano-a-mano between him and Bane is gonna be so thrilling and also chilling to watch. Tom Hardy’s massive build alone is intimidating enough, then there’s that sinister mask. Props for the Nolan brothers (Chris and Jonathan) and David S. Goyer for crafting yet another worthy villain to match our compelling hero.

I LOVE seeing Batman’s old compadres back, Gordon (Gary Oldman), Lucius Fox (Morgan Freeman). Looks like he gains a new one, the mysterious John Blake (Joseph Gordon-Levitt). Of course it’s always lovely to see one of my favorite movie father figures, Alfred Pennyworth (Michael Caine). It’s even more clear Batman/Bruce needs Alfred more and more to ‘get back into the swing of things.’ I’m still not as enthused about Catwoman/Selina Kyle though I’m warming up to her more and more. That part about his *wife* leaving with his car is awesome!! It’s a much-needed comic relief amidst all the gritty intensity.

FIRE WILL RISE. Yeah, and so is my feverish anticipation. JULY 20 can’t come soon enough!!

What say you, friends? Is this epic enough for ya?

  1. It looks good I will admit, but I cannot build myself to get too excited about it. I think Prometheus knocked all the wind out of my summer movie hype sails.

If the trailer is an indication of the ratio to which certain characters will actually be up on screen, I will be a happy girl. Although I must watch again because on first pass I did not see Marion Cotillard.

    1. Ahah, well that’s perhaps wise Iba. I wasn’t super excited for Prometheus, I mean nowhere near my excitement for this. Yeah, no Cotillard in this though she was featured quite a bit in the previous one.

  2. I have IMAX Tickets for July 20th as well, so I don’t need to watch this trailer. I’m already sold on the film, so I don’t need another trailer to tell me. Talk about promotional overload.

    1. I haven’t been watching too many of the clips or TV spots, so this one feels *new* to me. Plus I like the more fun side of this trailer.

  3. My love and excitement for DARK KNIGHT RISES has been well documented, and suffice to say, this Nokia trailer is gorgeous. Ruth, if you haven’t had the chance already, check out the MTV Movie Awards trailer Nolan released about two or three weeks ago; there was a emphasis on Selina Kyle that successfully brought me over to her side. Before I was all, ‘Catwoman has no business in this flick, neither does the super hot Hathaway’, but not I’m a believer.

There was a TV Spot (Number 9, I think) released yesterday that had another two seconds worth of Batman vs. Bane from the Batcave. I was actually rather taken aback when Bane said “Mr. Wayne.” Wowzers. And to see that it’s Catwoman who led Bane to Batman, or vice versa. O. M. G!

I would very much like for Gordon to know it’s Wayne under that mask. How about you? Would you prefer Bats to stay secret identitied, or have a bit of that mystique revealed?

Do you plan on hitting the midnight showing?

    1. Yo Andy, how the heck are you man? Hey do you have a link to that video you mentioned? I’m curious now. Well I’ve already warmed up to her a bit but yeah, I could use a bit more um, persuasion 🙂

What, what?? Catwoman led Bane to the Batcave?!! Oh I’ll NEVER forgive her!! I hope that’s by accident or I’ll hate that character forever.

Oooh that’s an interesting question about Gordon… that could almost be an idea for a post, man. I don’t know, I kind of wish he does but at the same time, the dynamic between the two might not be as well if Gordon knew the real identity.

Well, as for the midnight showing thing, I hadn’t planned on it, but after reading this article, I’m so tempted!!

How ’bout you? Are YOU going?

      1. Considering we have no context for that clip, i would withhold judgment on her character. Its possible Batman wanted her to lead him to bane, or something to that affect(Plus there was that line in the 3rd trailer she said about Batman having given enough)

  4. Another trailer?!? I’m going to hold off on seeing this one just so I go into the movie knowing as little as possible. I am definitely excited to see this opening weekend though!

    1. I hear ya Eric, I usually feel that way but I can’t help it w/ this one, I have seen it like 3 times within the first hour, ahah. I don’t think I’ll be disappointed though, in Nolan we trust 😀

I promised myself I won’t watch any more trailers or TV spots of this film but damn this new trailer looks good. I think this will be the last time I’ll watch anything about this film, want to go in as fresh as possible. I remember I knew way too much of The Dark Knight before I saw it and it sort of ruined my experience when I finally saw it.

    1. He..he.. see Ted? I know, I’m the same way. I kept telling Ivan not to show me any more clips but I LOVE watching trailers and this one is just so awesome. The music is great too, it just builds up the tension. I won’t overdo it though, like you said, maybe not watch anything a week before the movie 😀

  6. Soooo good! The word EPIC does instantly spring to mind! My wedding honeymoon are going to clash VERY BADLY with the 20th so it’s unlikely I’ll be seeing this for a long while! Oh well, it will be worth the wait!

    1. Oooh you’re getting married! How could I not know that, congrats Pete! Hey, in the grand scheme of things, personal relationship has to come first. It’s not like you’ll be thinking of Batman during your honeymoon, ahah. So are you going anywhere fun?

    Hi, Ruth and company:

Though not even a fan of the film’s Occupy, ‘Soak The Rich’ underpinnings. A bad guy has to get his cannon fodder and minions somewhere.

I’m curious about a closer look at the Sky Hook/Fulton Retrieval System stunt used to free Bane. The C-130 Hercules can do many things superbly well. but pull, even for a short time an airplane 2/3s its own weight?

Also if Bane breaks Batman’s back in accordance with the comic, ‘Knightfall’. Anyone else getting a vibe that Joseph Gordon-Levitt might get into the hero biz as Nightwing?

    Just some thoughts.

    1. Ted S.

You know Jack, I’m predicting Bruce Wayne will retire at the end of the movie and Gordon-Levitt character will either put on the mask as the new Cape Crusader or like you, I prefer to see him as Nightwing.

      1. jackdeth72

        Hi, Ted:

You may not be too far off. There’s lots of possibilities for Gordon-Levitt. Especially if he’s sent to Gotham from Bludhaven to protect Bruce Wayne.

Still not sold on Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle or Catwoman.

        1. I’d love to see Gordon-Levitt as Nightwing, but just having him in the movie is awesome enough.

Glad I’m not the only one not crazy about Hathaway, but like I said, I’m getting warmed up to the idea so we’ll see.

  8. Me in class today: So I’ll just go check what FlixChatter’s been up to…OMG THE DARK KNIGHT RISES TRAILER!!!!!!
*watches it, flails around arms excitedly, people look at me weirdly*

ONLY 29 DAYS UNTIL I HOPEFULLY GET TO SEE IT!

    (yeah, I’m excited)

  9. I didn’t watch it. I don’t know why I have gone all bar humbug. I am blaming Prometheus. I am not watching anything else to do with this now before release.

I probably will wait a few weeks before I head out to see it too. I can’t be bothered to get on the hype train. I can wait.

OOoh look at me all growned up.

  10. I have yet to see a single TDKR trailer in the cinema, so lapping up all of these new trailers when I can. EVERYTHING in this trailer feels perfect. From the fantastic score to every single frame. I can’t bloody wait. Now please?

    1. Yes, the music especially. Nolan is SO good at building up tension w/ his trailers, I mean this feels as epic as those Inception ones.

  11. I am still not that interested with superhero thingy…but I will march myself to the cinema for Bale and the possibility of Cillian as Cameo 😉

Although I am not as excited as you are, but I have to admit that Batman is better than other superhero movies because of its dark story.

    1. I hope to see Cillian too, Nov! I wasn’t too excited about Batman until Nolan’s version and this is the finale… I mean LegEND… so I’m EXTRA excited.

  12. The trailers are really cool, I just hope the film will be more focused than The dark Knight -I think it would be so much bettter if it only had the Joker and no Harvey Dent. Unfortunetly this one has the big flaw for me with Nolan films – all those awesome people in the cast, all of those characters and not enough screen time or substance to give them all something that would justify all this talent in the movies. Definetly will see this one, though.

    1. I hear ya Sati, I think having Bane as the primary villain would certainly make it more focused like you said, even though the Harvey Dent angle is interesting as he didn’t start out as the villain. I agree that too many characters mean less screen time for every single one of ’em, but ultimately it’s about Batman vs. Bane.

  13. Exactly a month from now! I doubt I will be there on opening night or maybe even opening weekend as it’s going to be pure madness. But yea, I can’t wait. I haven’t watched the trailer (and didn’t post it) because I don’t need to see anymore at this point. My butt is already in the seat 😀

    1. Yay, only 30 more days to wait!! You’re not gonna be there on opening night? Wow, such patience Castor. I’m thinking of ordering the IMAX tickets this week actually.
