Flix Poster of the Week: The Cold Light of Day

Cavill on the set of The Cold Light of Day

Please note: This is a re-post from a year ago as the new poster has just been released today, as well as new details on the movie.

This movie wouldn’t have been in my radar had it not been for my affinity for Henry Cavill. Could 2012 finally be Henry’s year? After being passed over so many times in iconic roles (Superman and Bond, among others), I sure hope so! I’m so glad he finally nabbed starring roles in a pretty substantial project, the other one being Tarsem Singh’s fantasy flick Immortals as the mythical Greek warrior Theseus.

When I first heard about The Cold Light Of Day months ago, I thought it’d be a small little indie thriller. But since then its profile’s significantly gone up since Bruce Willis and Sigourney Weaver join the cast!

I was asked to remove the original poster I found though I really like it. It’s probably made before the cast were confirmed, but I kind of like it. The color scheme and composition immediately grabbed my attention and no floating heads. Now we’ve got this one that’s released today, 11/6/11, and it’s not as creative but I’m so glad to see Henry front and center as a leading man!

Here’s the updated synopsis per LatinoReview:

When Will Shaw (Cavill) arrives in Spain for a weeklong sailing vacation with his family, the stressed young business man is not in a holiday mood. His startup company just went under and his tense relationship with his disciplinarian father Martin (Bruce Willis) only makes matters worse. But when the family is kidnapped by what turns out to be intelligence agents hell-bent on recovering a mysterious suitcase, Will suddenly finds himself on the run. His whole world turns upside down when Martin reappears, revealing he is an undercover agent tangled in an intergovernmental web of lies and secrets. During a clandestine rendezvous, Martin is killed by a sniper, and Will must find a way to get the rest of his family back alive.

With the kidnappers counting down the hours, the Spanish police breathing down his neck for a murder he didn’t commit and a cadre of U.S. assassins on his trail, Will flees through Madrid, racing to piece together a conspiracy as labyrinthine as the city’s ancient streets. Who can he trust? Who killed his father? And where is the mysterious suitcase that seems to the key to getting his family come safely? In his quest for answers, Will finds Lucia (Veronica Echegui) – a half-sister he never knew he had, who is determined to help him. Bound by their shared kiss, the siblings are a force to be reckoned with, but can they overcome the massive odds against them before it’s too late?

According to the press release posted on Collider site, principal photography had already begun last month, and the film is set and filmed entirely in Spain, and  will be shot over ten weeks in the Community of Valencia and Madrid as well as several weeks on the stages at Ciudad de la Luz studios in Alicante. French-Tunisian director Mabrouk El-Mechri is helming the project, he did the Jean-Claude Van Damme’s biopic JCVD which was surprisingly well-received (85% of rottentomatoes!)

I’m definitely liking the cast, especially Weaver as a villainess will be fun to watch. It’s scheduled for release on April 6, 2012. Can’t wait to see the trailer!

What do you think folks? is this something you’d be interested in seeing?

Please remove the poster for THE COLD LIGHT OF DAY from your website. This was a very old promotion poster and has incorrect information. We will send you the new poster as soon as it’s available.
Below is the link from your site that we need taken down:

    1. Yeah, I’m always behind but you’re the Hollywood Spy, Dez 😀 Amen about Henry, so for sure I already have two movies to look forward to next year!

      1. PS, Flixy, I could swear Mr. Manganiello has sent me an e-mail too about something before, but I can’t remember what about. His name rings a bell for me.

    1. Yeah, it can go one way or the other, but the casting, direction and setting can make a seemingly run-of-the-mill plot seems totally fresh. As I said, I probably wouldn’t have paid attention if they had say, Channing Tatum in this. I’m sure you’ll be all over this too if Deborah Ann Woll were in the cast 😉

      1. True. The cast seems good to me, and i will probably end up seeing this on dvd. But as of now, i will wait for a trailer to decide whether its something i really want to see

…and your probably right about the Deborah thing. I actually checked her imdb today to see when her next movie is coming out. I just can’t help it, she inspires the fanboy in me

        1. He..he… see what I mean? Yeah, I think the trailer would be a good measure for people whether it’s worth seeing or not. Though you always have your favorites and you’d probably see ’em even if the movie doesn’t look too good.

  2. Nice post, it’s the first time I’ve heard of the film. It’s nice to see Henry Cavill taking top billing among the heavyweight supporting cast. The synopsis doesn’t do much for me, but since I’ve been proved wrong many many times in the past, I’ll reserve judgement til I at least see a trailer 😉

    1. Hi Russ, I’ve just been catching up with the comments and had just replied to some of your comments, he..he.. Are you a fan of Henry? I am thrilled to see him getting prominent roles, took him a while to get here. I’ve been following his career since his role in The Count of Monte Cristo a decade ago. I’m curious about this one because of the director too, at least it’s not someone like Brett Ratner, in which case I’d be quite worried!

Looks like Hollywood is pushing Cavill to be come the new leading man hard. They tried to push several actors but none of them have pan out. I hope this movie will be a good action thriller, can’t believe Bruce Willis is playing his father!!

    1. Hey thanks again for the tip on this poster, man, you’re awesome! Ha..ha.. well what else would WIllis be playing, he is old enough to play his dad. If he’s playing the brother, then I’d be shaking my head, ha..ha..

As for Henry as leading man, well it’s about darn time! I’ve been wanting for him to get leading roles since like 5 yrs ago. He’s more charismatic than most American actors they’re pushing now. I mean, if he had been in the lead for IN TIME, I’d watch it in a heart beat.

  4. Sounds like it could be a nice thriller although I won’t get my hopes up too much as they usually fumble it and it turns into a generic chase flick. Haven’t seen any Henri Cavill up to this point (I think) but Immortals is coming out this upcoming Friday and I might check that out 🙂

    1. I’m hopeful that the director will create something of a unique thriller w/ this one, though with Henry as the lead, they’ve already got a good start. I also love Sigourney as a villain. Glad you’re gonna be seeing Immortals, Cas, I hope I can see it Friday nite if time allows!

    1. He..he.. well this movie has been on my radar for over a year, but Henry was still obscure at the time. I think his popularity is rising and I’m so happy for him!

  5. It sounds interesting…but i wouldn’t say the same thing for the poster…it’s a common poster.

Sigourney is on fire…glad seeing these old timers doing lots of movie lately…tho my favorite character of her is still as Ripley.

Just want to let you know…tomorrow is a special day for my man 😉

    1. I think having Sigourney in this is a huge plus. I know Henry’s American accent is pretty good, I’m just excited to see him do a contemporary thriller.

        1. Well you’ll be seeing more of him in the next few years. He’s already got Immortals this year and of course Superman is the big superhero event next year. Can’t wait!!

    1. I know you would 😀 The rest of the cast isn’t bad either. I hope this film will do well, then maybe the studios can cast Henry in everything like they do with Sam Worthington & Fassbender, he..he…

  6. The new poster is lovely and last week when I posted it most of the ladies at my place loved the look of Henry on it 🙂
PS I’m having an interesting piece of news on our dear RufRuf Sewell in about half an hour at HOLLYWOOD SPY 🙂

  7. Well, I might have wanted to see it if that plot synopses didn’t tell me most of the major happenings in the movie. I mean…OK, Bruce Willis gets killed by a sniper probably half an hour, 45 minutes in. Yet there is is on the poster. Plus all the other stuff it mentioned. Oh, well.
